Brake problem...

Post by Aneab »

Any idea whats up with my brakes?

I'm not sure whats wrong with them, when i use them they make a clunk noise and jerk a little bit... like it gripped too hard then slipped... I do know that my right front brake pad is almost gone if not already gone... but i've never seen any downgrade in how well my car brakes... other than the sticking.... the back brakes were just replaced, (probably an unneeded fix, the mechanic that did the work on the car before always decides you need something when you don't... and told my grandmother she needed new struts and springs on her barely broken in Lumina)

Brake pads are designed to make an awful sound to let you know when to replace them. Do so soon so you don't jack up the rotors.

yes... as daftmajin explained the pads have this warning plate which is practically a thin sheet of metal that rubs the rotor when the pads are too thin... it makes lods of scratching noise but doesn't do any harm to the rotors.

you got to check the pads to see if they are worn out, replace if needed and you can refer to the "how to" section for that also if your brakes fluid is older than 25,000 miles then it is better to flush it as well.

just remeber after brakes service to pump the brakes pedal some 10 to 15 times before you drive just to reseat the pads into their correct location, i almost ran over a pedestrian at 5 Km/h 'cause i forgot to do that and my brake pedal went to the metal without stopping the car.

Hang on now. I'm not so sure that applies to all Daewoos. In fact, I've never seen a Daewoo with a warning plate.

I heard it on my Lanos, which had OEM pads, before I upgraded.

it depends on what pads you use... i got the OEM with warning plates but the SANGSIN pads didn't have them.

Since I got this car I've only used original equipment pads and they didn't have any. My buddy's Leganza doesn't have them either. But from the responses here it seems there are differences from market to market.

I don't think the DAC setup of the Nubira, Leganza, and select Lanoses have scrape plates. I have a sedan and pretty much always used OEM pads and I have never seen any waring plates. Maybe the TEVES setup is different.

I had the Teves (ATE) rear end on my car and used OEM Vauxhall pads when I replaced them and they didn't have plates either.

i got the DAC as well... seems like marketing issues rather than the product itself.

Weird...

I've used OEM pads and Bendix Pads, and neither came with the plates. It doesn't really matter though, how hard is it to bend down and look to see how much meat you have left on the pad.
