i asked that before and the reply came out saying it is very hard and too compicated... i would rather keep it as it is, brakes are a major safty device and we should not mess with it.

My Lanos has ABS but if I had the choice I would prefer non-ABS brakes. Most people wrongly think that ABS will stop you quicker. That is false because ABS actually increases the stopping distance. The only good thing ABS does is help you steer around an obstacle without skidding. It does not decrease your overall stopping distance. In winter I take out the ABS fuse because driving in snow with ABS brakes is an absolute nightmare. Cadence braking in slippery situations stops a vehicle much quicker than ABS.

With cadence braking you can control a vehicle and bring it to a stop much much quicker in snow than with ABS. With locked wheels you will not have any control over the steering but it will still stop you quicker than ABS as the snow packs itself in front of the wheels helping to reduce the speed.
ABS is designed not to stop you quicker but to allow you to steer in the event of an emergency, but even then most people just hit the brakes and freeze without steering.

what is "cadence braking "?... and yes ABS is ment to keep the tires rotating at the lowest speed attainable to keep you in control of the steering, if you lock up the front then it could be anything from an acute understeer to zero steering.
i steered the car twice before with the front locked but it was very unresposive and on clean tarmak... on ice, water ,oil or whatever slippary surfaces things won't be that easy.
as every thing else in this world it is a compromise between braking power and steering control.

Cadence braking is manually pumping the pedal when a lock up is felt. In snow conditions this method gives better stopping ability than ABS. That is why some Audi's are fitted with a button to turn off ABS. ABS does not keep the wheels rotating at the lowest possible speed. To achieve the lowest possible speed will involve braking to a point BEFORE the ABS kicks in. Once ABS is working it will be releasing the brake pressure many times a second (that's the pulsating you feel in the pedal). While the ABS is releasing the brake there is no braking been achieved which is why stopping distance is increased.
i think While the ABS is releasing the brake there is some braking been achieved... i mean if the case is a consecutive brake/no brake action it would air strip to stop the car.

knowing the background of the guy i can't be too sure of his clames... how many times does the ABS pulsate per second??
also does ABS has to work on disks?? someone told me that the drum brakes are not mechanically able to achive such faast rate of pulsation... is that correct?
