HELP! did i fry my clutch???

Post by MMamdouh »

hi guys

i did a stupid thing today and i am not sure if my clutch survived that

i was leaving work today and found out a car (Hyundai matrix) parked right at my front bumper and a woo at the back bumper and their wasn't an inch to manuver the car out of the parking spot.

i started the car and let the engine warm up a bit then i throwed in first gear and revved my woo up to some 2500 RPM or so then started to push the hyundai... it is a heavy ass car with the hand brake applied

i managed to push it to the front a bit after some hard engine work for 2 or 3 seconds... so far so good but when i was backing up to head to the road i smelled the clutch

it smelled like fried brakes pads and i was scared as hell that i might have tosted the clutch... the car felt just the same all the way home (10 Km drive) and i have accelerated hard and squealed the tires in 2nd gear just to check things out and all seems ok.

when i parked the car at home i can still smell a mild "fried pads" smell... not sure if that is because the clutch is badly hurt or because the smell was tightly captured in clutch the bell house and leaking gradually.

guys i am desprate... the last thing i need is a fried clutch now and the smell frightened me like hell yet the car performace is the same... did anyone experiance that before? can my clutch survive that load? is theiur anyway to know if it is ok or need replacment (other than taring it apart)?

i am in deep need of help here guys

unless it's slipping really bad or you can't change gears... you mave have just gotten it hot. drive on it a few days and see if it acts funny. usually fade caused by over-heating (like brake fade/clutch slip) is noticable instantly... if it hasn't felt wierd yet, i don't think anything is wrong... other than a bad idea :?

WOAH... what a releaf, i have no slipping up till now even after pushing the clutch hard while shifting... i even tryed the 4th gear with hand brale thing and the car almost stalled (just like i tried before)... i guess it is like pushing the brakes hard, it smeels for a while then gets back to normal.

it was a bad idea indeed but i just hate that god damn car (the huyndai matrix) and i had no time to look for the MO FO that owns it to move it away... also i wanted to test my woo to see if it got torque and... yes it does, my apologes to my clutch though i gave it hard time during the process.

one good thing though is that the matrix is standing right in the middle of the road now  that the price you pay for blocking me in ass hole (shouting at the Hyundai ownr).

will give you feedback when i drive her later... thanks for the help man.

the first time i hit the rev limiter i didn't know i had a rev limiter so i went to the dealers and told the guy "when i hit 45 km/h on 1st gear; the enggine see..." the guy said in shock "you hit 45 km/h in 1st?? do you want to kill the engine? this is too much!" as if he owned the car or something so i though it is really bad to do so.

after i knew whats arev limiter and what it does i used to push the car to the rev limiter on both 1st and 2nd gear all the time but now it is a rare thing to hit it in 1st unless i over reacted at some dude that cut me off or swerveat me or so.

i also noticed that hitting the rev limiter slows you down as you go with no power for a second or so and cost you alot of time, even if you shift right before the rev limit you still can do better if you shifted a bit earlier than that... maybe at 5500 RPM or so.

no... no tire squealing at all, my tires were gripping very good... the clutch took all the pain.

the hyundai's brakes were applied... not mine.

ok this matrix is kinda like an SUV that shrunk in the washing machine... it is ugly as hell and from the size i see it will be heavy, having said that and adding to it that the Matrix's hand brake was applied then we get to the fact that my engine got loads of torque and i abuse my cat too much.

i have tested the car for some 8 kms drive and i think every thing is ok.

the tranny shifts smoothly and the car accelerates fine... topped up to 150 km/h then to 140 km/h with no sweat... squealed the tires in 2nd gear twice and it is just fine.

when i parked the car i smelled fried pads again but htose were my pads 'cause i had to slow down from 140 km/h to some 70 or less twice while i was testing the car.

i guess this means the clutch is ok as i went to high speeds with no feeling of slipping, delays or so... right?
