Anybody made a brake cooling scoop?

Post by MMamdouh »

anybody thought of doing something like this? or even actually did it?

i think it wont be that hard... just fabricate a scoop and cut a little bit of the rotor guard and it is done... right??

Better yet, if you aren't running fog lights, pop out the fog light covers and run a dryer hose or something of the sort from the fog light hose through a hole in your fender well. It will keep temperatures down and I don't think dust or rain should make much of a danger.

I was actually thinking of doing this but I decided to get fog lights rather than brake ducts.

i am already running with no fog light covers... i poped one for the resonator removal then i poped the other one so it matches the other side.

i thought of that too but i didn't want to cut my wheel well... i thing Shaun did something like that on his car... i remeber i saw "vents" on his wheel well.

yeah I had vents on my wheel wells. However I don't think it really does any good if you're not going to be racing a road course or something.

Now, the fronts of my wheel wells are cut off due to rubbing :(

Hey Audacityracing, you mind doing a short write up of some kind on how to do front brake cooling ducks. I recently warped a rotor and havnt had ANY luck finding anyone that'll work on it since its slotted... and i dont wanna be going through rotors every couple months.

Quite interested in this method of cooling, not for my Nubira, but for one of my other cars which does see track use.

My only question is: Doesn't this run the risk of warping or even shattering the disk (rotor) due to the cooling only being on one side (heat expands, cold contracts)???

Other than that, it's by far the best idea i've seen and so easy to do.

If it's reliable then i'll use that method, most people just run ducting from an intake that just blows the air in the general direction of the rotors (pretty ineffective on my car).

Thanks, JayW.

they way i'm coing it, there are multiple smaller holes drilled in the dust shield...

and a "funnel" shape to deflect the air semi-evenly around the hole thing...

unless you are brakeing from a way high speed, you shouldn't warp it. look at touring and lemans cars

unless you're doing serious autocross or road course races I don't see any need for such a thing. And even then you can get slotted brakes. If you have a good brake set up to begin with you will not get any fade from heat.

air cooling is not that effective as fluid cooling so the air duct can't make that substantial head difference between the two rotor sides to make it wrap.

as shaun said: this nod is usless unless you race or so... for me: i once forced my pads to smoke and many times they smell when i am pushing the brakes too hard... not a bad idea to have them on after all.

I can name so many reasons i need every bit of help i can... Right now i have my stock rotors on cuz my slotted ones warped from my last race. Even in daily driving i get them to fade and the pads to "float" alot... a few times i was racing around on the streets on the outskirts of a town w/ stock rotors and got those brake pads smoking so bad i had to get outta my car to breath.

Since ive gotten really good at heal-and-toe technique my brakes havnt been fading much on the track anymore. Some turns here and there on some laps but not too bad. But if i can keep my rotors a couple degrees cooler during the whole race.. that'd make a big difference.

Thanks audacity... ill be waiting to see how you've done it.
