what does the "hold" button do? ( how to use it?)

Post by Tyrant »

this button is there in almost all gm daewoo cars.. (epica, optra.. etc..)
i was always curious about this button but never got the nerve to use it (was afraid that i might mess up the transmission).
now the reply would be... "read the damn owners manual u dumbass" :P.. lol, yes i have read it and it got me even more confused :S . (that was the only pasrt i didnt get).
so i decided to contact the local dealership and as usual they dont know $h!t, then i emailed chevrolet, then gm daewoo, then suzuki.. and in all cases all i got was exactly what was written in the manual.

so guys can any of you shed some light on what this button does and how to use it??, i had the car for about a year and am ithcing to see what it does :p.

thanks in advance :).

The hold button makes the car shift more like a manual transaxle. When you push the hold button "Hold" should light up by the gauges. Now L becomes 1st, becomes 2nd and D becomes 3rd. In you case 1 is 1st, 2 is 2nd, 3 is 3rd and D is 4th. It was made so when you start off on a hill or in snow you can have more traction. but you can use it to shift. It is not as smooth as a 5spd but it sure beats the car thinking for you and shifting.

The Hold only affects L or 1 through D. N, R, and park stay the same. I use this feature when racing. You can start in any gear because lets say you push hold and are in D. All the gears below that can be used and the ecu will determine the right one. so to make this a little more clear in 1 or L: first gear is the only option. In 2: 2nd or 1st may be used. In 3: 3rd, 2nd or first will be used. So when using this push at 5500 rpm or if you want to risk it red line. this will let the ecu the next gear is availble and the car will shift. This feature is similar to the Toyota Celicas paddle shift auto. Remember it is still and auto and will never be a manual, thus this feature is not perfect

Hope this helps
