Vauxhall/Opel gearbox on Lanos 1.5 ???

Post by MaXiMiZoR »

I've been experiencing some trouble with my gearbox (think it's a worn ball-bearing) and was wondering if an Opel gearbox would fit my 1.5 8v Lanos.

I've heard of an Opel F13 gearbox wich I can have cheap around here. F13 is used on Opel 1.4 16v and 1.6 8v so I think it's a good match for the Lanos.

Does anyone know if it's a direct swap? I've heard some rumours about Opel being slightly different so I need clear info.

the f13 wouldn't be a good match... it would be going backwards from the D16

plus you would have to deal with either converting the vaux gearbox to hydraulic clutch, or convert the lanos to cable clutch
i'm not sure what would be needed (but i'd assume it would be easier to change the gearbox to hydraulic)

the other thing that COULD be different is the size of the driveshaft splines fitting into the lanos hubs

other than that it would be fine (but a better choice would be a f16)

So the standard for Lanos 1.5 is a D16/F16 gearbox?

yep
the 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6 all have D16 but the gear ratios are slightly different (1.3 has longest ratio, 1.6 has shortest)

i think it is the other way around

the 1.6 lanos does 60KPH on 1st gear while the 1.5 lanos does only 50KPH (up to rev limiter that is)

MMamdouh's explanation sounds pleasing...
