M32 gearbox in Cruze fits Daewoo

Post by PrecisionBoost »

I was trying to find out more on the Chevrolet Cruze ( which is now available here in my country Canada ) and I found out that the standard 6spd gearbox is the M32!!

Now you might say "so what" but the key here is that I already imported an M32 from an Astra VXR and can confirm that it will fit all Daewoo applications

So anyone looking for a stronger gearbox can upgrated to the new M32 gearbox, quaife makes an LSD and it's cable shift instead of the old troublesome mechanical linkage.

Here is the article showing the M32 (from the back side) and the front side of the 6 spd automatic showing the mounting pattern that is the same as our Getrag D16/D20/F16/F20/F28

I bought mine from the UK two or three years ago ( brand new ) for about $800 + $300 for shipping.

The problem I had was that I need all the other parts to make it work ( cables, shifter, clutch, drive shafts )

Now not only are the stock parts available at my local dealership, there will be tons of aftermarket because the M32 is used heavily on the GM vehicles in the rest of the world.

I like the old F28 but you can't rebuild them because some of the parts are no longer available.

Thus far the M32 seems pretty strong, perhaps stronger than the F28

I just saw a commercial for a Chevy Cruze in the US. Is this one in the same? and does it offer this same transmission?

I don't know about the USA but in Canada all Cruze models come with the 6spd manual M32 as standard equipment.

In Canada we get the naturally aspirated 1.8L ( same as Saturn Astra ) in the low end model and in the higher end models we get the 1.4L Turbo

The Cruze is the new Daewoo Lacetti, it will also be available under the Buick name.

The Buick model will come with the 1.6L Turbo from the Corsa VXR, which makes 181hp :) :)

Is this 1.6L Turbo engine any relation to the 1.6L in the Lanos?

the 1.6 is the same platform as the 1.8

the 6-speed auto is standard equipment in the states

I was talking to the dealer some time ago and you can't get the "ideal" Cruze. I wanted the 1LT with the 1.8, 6-speed manual, rear disc, black/sport red cloth interior. those aren't available in any pacage together.
the 1.8 is ONLY available in the LS. rear disc and black/sport red cloth interior are not available in the LS.
I had to work out a deal where I'd get the 1LT with the 1.4T and the dealer would buy back the motor. I'm a sticler for the 1.8 because both the 1.8 and the 1.4T make about the same power but I can get a turbo setup for the 1.8.

oh, something to keep in mind. there are TWO different 6-speed manual options available in the states. the manual for the 1.4T and the 1.8 come with very different gearing options.

cheers,
Garrett

So i was just on GM Canada's website and looking at the specs of the Cruze i see that they offer different M32 gearboxes for the 1.8 and the 1.4T, the gear ratios are different between the 2 engines.

Im not too good with gear ratios but i like a long 1st gear in mine with the other gears holding high rpms (above 4500 rpm) when at WOT.

My M32 was a new Astra VXR gearbox so it might have a third completely different set of rations, I haven't bothered to compare them yet.

Quaife has offered a ATB differential for the M32 for quite some time, so far they seem pretty strong with a number of VXR's pushing past 500hp using the M32.

The main reason I haven't done much with the M32 is that I haven't had time to track down a clutch, cable shifter or figured out what I need for drive shafts.

Now that the cruze is available I might see if I can pick up a complete front clip from a write off, odds are the wreckers will be asking very little because the car is so new and there won't be much demand for replacement wrecker parts.

That way I can get all the parts I need and compare it to the other Daewoo vehicles ( since the Cruze is a Daewoo Lacetti it may have some compatible components )

I would be very interested in any information that comes out of this !
