Blew tranny in 2.0 Aveo... Will D16 axel shafts work on D20?

Post by Nemasys »

I have an Aveo with a swapped 2.0 from an Optra/Forenza (same engine as existence) but im still using the 1.6's tranny. Well the D16 couldnt hold up at the dragstrip tonight and blew on my 3rd pass.

I just want to know if the stronger D20 can fit in the Aveo's engine bay without any modification to the mounts, i would assume the D20 would use the same mounts as the D16 since the 2.0 uses the same mounts as the 1.6.

If anyone can clarify this for me before i buy a new tranny it would be great help, id rather be able to put the D20 in there rather then another D16.

Thanks!

Heres a quick pic, the intake is now painted black (it was sanded down in this pic) and the grounding system is also reconnected properly. I dont have an updated pic yet.

as far as i know it will fit with no problems

i just can't get the fact that you blew your tranny with the 2.0 engine... on the 2.0 nubira we were using the D16 tranny and up till this day it is still running strongly bearing in mind that the car got its 2.0 engine some 4 years ago and spent one year out of those running 10 pSI of boost and 220 WHP... it is hard for me to believe that the engine power of the N/A 2.0 T20SED broke the D16 tranny... i recon it was a problem in the tranny itself.

Well ive been having problems with the D16 for years, 3rd gear keeps grinding and sometimes its hard to shift, that also might have caused it to fail. Funny thing is recently tho its been working flawlessly, no gear grinding whatsoever, every gear shift felt like a new car. When i left the line that 3rd pull, i let the clutch go at around 4k rpm, the wheels spun for a second or two and when the tires gripped there was this loud thumping noise and the shifter came all loose, when i got off the track there was transmission oil leaking.

So your saying the D20 will bolt right up in place of the stock D16?

yes... the D16 is currently bolted to a T20SED engine in Egypt's first 2.0 Nubira

Alright, i have a D20 coming in by the end of the week.

One thing annoys me tho, will the stock axel shafts from the Aveo (D16) work with the D20 gearbox? If not ill have to buy a set of shafts and hubs :?

its kinda old, but they will fit.

Did the box on the d16 crack and could you see the diff by looking under the car?

it happened to me once on a very old F16
