brake pads problem

Post by MMamdouh »

i got two sets of pads (different brand names)... one sets works fine till it is too hot... then it is 50% less effective, the other set is not so great till it is pushed hard then it bites as it should

i was thinking if i can use a combo of both... one pad from the "cool" set and one pad from the "hot" set per wheel... so that while i am at regular city driving i will get good braking effect from the cool pads and if i push the brakes too hard the hot pads will get into action and help stop the car better.

my concern is the difference in friction coefficient of both pad types when used together... can this be dangerous in any way? can it harm the rotors or so??

as you know b4 MM i just speak logically, without any exp or facts

i would have to say if you use, for example, the cools on the out side, then hotts on inside, when u need to brake hard-ish.. the wheels would pull. like turn to a side.. as the inside would "bite" more then the outside, thus it might want to turn the wheels.

well... the effect of cool/hot pad would be on the same tire so their will be no pulling... the effect you are talking about will reflect on the rotors

the pads will be kinda trying to warp the rotor sides against each other... it will be more like what happens to a washer when you tighten a bolt

again this is in theory... i am not sure if those effects are strong enough to induce such effect

seems to me the different amounts of heat would warp the rotors...inside heats up quickly and outside heats up slowly...so the metal expands more on one side of the rotor than the other? I wouldn't do it. sounds like it would at least warp the rotors if not crack them from the different rates of expansion on each side. kinda like if you had a break pad that was completely worn out on one side and a new one on the other...the side with the bad pad would get hot quickly and thus the rotor will warp if it doesn't get chewed up.

i see

then i should be looking at some red stuff pads or so

i am currently on green stuff pads and they are as good as the "cold pad" set that i have... it is not that heat tolerant or at least not to my expectations... red stuff pads withstands heat up to 650C which is 100C more than green

well depends on how much braking youll be doing :P well if money is no issue, then go for red.
good luck.

no idea at all bro

my experience with pads heat is simply deformed wheel covers, everlasting brake fade and shit load of smoke :D

lol. i agree.
all i know also though try out some slotted rotors too. :) to start off with.
drilled ones supposedly cut the brake pad life of 15% but the power you get is worth it.
here in US theres a few, but lifetime brake pads, pay like $80 or $160 (dont know for sure) and every time ur pads go thin, just get a free replacement.
(dont know the brand or anything, all i know my dad got it for my moms van) but the one thing, you cant let it get to the metal clip.
so yea.. good luck on no more burned/warped things.

i was planning on getting a set of slotted and dimpled rotors from EBC but because i am a very lucky man the local agent had problems with EBC UK and thier are no EBC stuff in the country since March 2009

i am now tempted with the 288mm front rotor upgrade... i am trying to get as much info as i can to see how feasible this swap is in Egypt in terms of parts and cost
