the D and F stands for the clutch operation as far as i know... the D is hydraulic clutch and F is cable operated clutch

i think the case of the 16 and 20 are the same... the gears of the 20 are stronger and can handle much torque... i am not sure about ger ratios though

They are. The bellhousings are identical afaik.

Splines on that range are all the same so no trouble with different shafts.

I was also under the impression a guaife for the f20 would fit ythe f16. Hmmm

The lsd will. Even one for the F16/D16 will fit the F28 if you buy an extra piece.

not sure on the d16... but the f20 versus the f16....

they all all the 2.0 gearboxs. the f20 however has a different diff in it cause that box has got longer gears then the f16...
The casings are the same, but in order to fit the f20 into the f16 u need to change the diff and crown wheel as well

Most D16 and D20 boxes I have seen are cable clutch.

The main and only difference other than ratio variations is the strength of the boxes... internals are interchangable.

D16 and F16 boxes are rated at aprox 190Hp at the flywheel before you will get Main Shaft Bearing fail... either you will get a bearing fail or get the case to split or both.

If you are running a C20XE you must remember they are 150Hp at the flywheel standard. My C20XE with the littlw ork it had had is already 150Hp at the wheels so aprox 180Hp at the flywheel.

D20 and F20 are generaly identical except if there are hydraulic clutch types out there. They are rated as far as I know to about the 250Hp at the flywheel.

The gearbox ratings are normaly in foot pounds and these HP ratings are aprox from discusions from people who have tried and broken them.

The strength in the boxes between the F20 and F16 is all done by F20 having a bigger front bearing on the Main Shaft... it is possible to machine a F16/D16 to take the bigger front bearing... I have seen this done and seemed to work... was done in desperation not having a F20 Case.

F16/D16 and F20/D20 have the same diffs.

Some outer CV's are different though. The deawoo's with D16 box I have seen have smaller outer CV. The Drive Shafts and CV's are interchangable from one to the other... as long as you match up what Outer CV you have.

eg: If you put equal length drive shafts from a Calibra into a deawoo with D16 box... the shafts should fit the box no problem but the outer CV's from a Calibra are bigger... but you should be able to swap the deawoo outer CV's to the Calibra shafts and there you go.

I have a Quaife F20 gearset in a F16 case. Its a straightforward swap I think. If I want to swap a stock F20 gearset into the F16 there's a little bush that goes somewhere. Don't knwo where though.

the main difference between f20 and f16 are the ratios of eache gear box. f20 is a longer gear than f16, how ever the case is the same if u want to change in you gearbox into a nexia!

Some pictures for comparison. Hope its useful. Its operation of my Daewoo Gearbox (Chevy Aveo). Think its D16 if I am not wrong.

Someone with part number book maybe can chek the part number shown in the picture to confirm whether its a D16 gearbox. Or D20.

I have default 3.944 final drive ratio, changed to 4.176 final drive ratio now.
