Upgarde from Drum to Disc on 97 Cielo!

Post by frplymstr »

Hi All, I want to upgrade my rear drum to disc brakes on a 97 Cielo!
Does anyone know what other make of car has a similar rear suspension configuration so as to make the swap a basic backyard mechanic job!

Vauxhall Astra mk2 GTE/Opel Kadett GSI. Buy the full suspension arm aswell as the disks hubs and caplipers. The suspension arm has a wee loop on it for your new handbrake cable to go through which stops it from getting caught inbetween your rear springs.

If it's too dear to get the whole rear suspsension arm just go with the disks. They're a DIRECT replacement.

Think some saabs share the mounting pattern too...

Cheers for the help Pir0!
Just another quick one, do I need to change any of the brake hardware under the bonnet also? I am asuming that because it is currently configured for rear drum, I will need to get the hardware from the Astra too!

the proportioning valves are configured for rear drums, if you put rear disks on there you will experiance rear wheel lock up before you have the fronts lock up, you caould spin out of control, you need a 4 wheel disk proportioning valve

Never experienced anything like that in my other friends daewoo. Sure the front disks and pads are the same size as an Astra GTE, why would they proprtion the brake bias differnetly?

i dont know the specifics of it, but from every thing ive heard rear disks on a rear drum prop valve will cause premature rear brake lock up.
