GM 4T4oe auto tranny no PWR indication

We have 2000 Lanos auto tranny that dose not go into PWR (power/passing) when it it pressed. The PWR light comes on (SOMETIMES) when you start the car. When you engage the PWR button nothing happens. ???? Is this an electrric switch? Should you feel resistance when you push the button? Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Broken wires under shifter. Made them longer. Working now (:-D
