lost first gear

Post by TxDAEWOOxT »

Drove across town and it was all highway miles. Pulled into my destination and tried to put it in first and it let off an awful grind. it wouldnt let me go into first and there was grinding sound coming from the tranny. took off in second gear with no problem and then the grinding stopped. i thought i lost first gear for the entire ride home. finally got home and started to mess with the car. i tried everything to get it in to first and it wouldnt let me. i let car roll in reverse and put it into first and it finally went in with no problem. havent had the problem since then.

any suggestions?

syncro got stuck then released....

check the 12mm bolt on the linkage of the shift stick mechanism... it is in the bottom center of the fire wall, if this bolt is lose it will cause misshift issues like the one you are experiancing.

This really didnt feel like a misshift or a problem with the clutch. It would go in any other gear but frist. From my very unprofessional opinion, this sounded like a problem with the tranny. I know you guys dont have the car in front of you to know what it is doing. I guess nobody has had the same problem and im glad my car isnt jacked up anymore. It fixed its self!!! thanks guys
