Shifting assembly

Post by TxDAEWOOxT »

Got my car back from the shop and the shifter has alot of play in it(it didnt before). The mechanic said the oil softened the rubber grommits in the shifter linkage.

He was having a problem getting the shift knob to line back up to the factory setting. It is still way off and if i go through all the gears on a normal drive and come to a stop. I wanna put it in first to start off again and some how i am in reverse?????

I dont have to pull the safety up to put it in reverse. When it is in neutral and i check the shifter to the right (towards 5th gear) and go back to the 1st gear position it will go right into 1st. Like i said before if i go through all the gears and try to put it back in first it goes in reverse.Dunno?

I think if i can get those grommits for the linkage or a new linkage (at the tranny) and have my mechanic install it will fix my problem. Anybody got a part # for the linkage or the grommits?

Thanks Lee

i hardly doubt that soft gormets can cause so much play that you throw in the wrong gear.

going to 5th then first to engage first gear rather than revers suggest that something is way loose... check the 12mm bolt on the tip of the shifting column... look down at the mid part of the fire wall and you will see where the column is linked to the shifting mechanism.

+1. When I had to do that my motor mount was broken...thought the shifter linkage was just loose though. Wish I took a min too look

yes it can be that, the soft gormets or whatever you call them

because it has happened to me well its happening right now, you line up the linkage and after a few shifts its in the wrong place again.

right now i have to pull the reverse safety to put second gear if i dont do it like that it will go into 4th.

Well im glad im not the only one with this problem.

The grommits were fine when i took it in but then mechanic started to work on it he said they just fell apart(the 2 rubber grommits) at the tranny. They were soaked and working fine until he started to tear into it.

They are not there anymore so that is where i am getting my play. We found some GM replacement parts for an Aveo he said he was gonna try. There was nothing for a Lanos shift assembly from the factory...... which i thought was weird. The dealer told me that he would have to sell me a transmission to get those parts.

I would like to show my mechanic a pic of what we are talking about. Can somebody post something up for me? Thanks once again guys!!

Same transmission.... so there is no reason why it shouldn't.

I have a Daewoo Electronics Parts Catalog (cat's out of the bag I guess... it covers Nubira,Leganza,Lanos,Lacetti,Kalos and more )..... so.... I can look up the parts you need whether it be under the Lanos or Kalos (AKA Aveo)

I'm at work right now.... and I don't know if I will get to it tonight.... but I will try to remember tommorow.... perhaps drop me a PM so I don't forget ( I'm getting old )
