Just wanted to make sure DEXRON III is the kind of transmission fluid i need in my nubira's auto tranny... I looked it up on the site... and in the specific transmission page but just wanted one last final "Yes" before i went ahead and bought 12 qts of the stuff...
Be careful changing the fluid though! The manual says that the automatic transmission fluid never has to be replaced, and I would listen to it! I was forced to change my fluid because of a leaky pan gasket, but after the change, I had problems with really jerky shifts (I'm talking as if someone kicks you in the butt every time you go into gear), and occasionaly some weird noises coming from the transmission.
Unless you have a really bad gasket leak that you need to take the pan off to fix, just stay with the fluid you have in there. I had my fluid in for like 180,000 miles, and when I removed it, it was in surprisingly good condition, and this was under the most stressful conditions for a car (delivery vehicle, humid, hot Florida weather).
I know we don't have to "ever" replace it.. but when you punch a nice hole in the bottom of your transmission pan doing somethng stupid... not only do you gain a new respect for your car and driving, but you have to replace the oil and everything else =/
Well I got all my stuff this afternoon, and put everything to gether, the new filter and oil is in ( i went with a fram filter and Valvoline ATF) Hoping it works good, if not, i'll be replacing it again with better fluid (probably same type of filter).
