Anyone break the 4T40E yet?

If so, how much power and what broke? or did it just wear out behind a stock engine? I know the 'woo that donated my head swap got a new trans at about 60K miles. I wonder if it will hold up to any power? Like over 300hp.

well the GM site says they can handle up to 200lb-ft at the crank.
I'm sure with a lil beefing up they can handle anything you want.
Problem is the gearing sucks.

Really? What are the gear ratios? or is it the final drive gear ratios that suck.

Why wouldn't you use a beefed up TH125C... there are Sunbird guys out there (like Ned Southwick) running high horsepower C20GET's in Sunbirds.

I broke mine

Post by aveo04slvr »

I think this is the trans in the Aveo, I busted it at 36,040 they replaced it free, but is was completely stock, all i did was try to spin the tires at 30mph, yeah i slammed into neutral, tached it out, hit the hold button, then slammed it into 1st, Yeah, so i lost 1st, but luckily, there is that hold button so you can start out in 2nd if need be, Well, i know not to play like that any more... now i'm at 58,000 and it runs fine.

i snapped a 2L leganza auto. Apparently i smashed all the internals to pieces and not even the case was useable because i had cracked it.

I dono how it happend, i was just driving, heard a clunk and then a snap, then saw white smoke in the rear view and knew i was walking.
guess i should have checked the fluid in it, looks like it hasnt ever been changed, was black and smelled burnt. kinda got a heavy foot i guess.
Cause i doubt the 150HP 2.4 GM LD9 could tear this thing up like this without some sort of outside problem, Like general maintenece. Its alright though, first gear has been slipping for a while now and i have an entire backup car. In the works right now of swapping it out and actullay changing the filter and fluid on the doner this time around.
