What should the rpm read when at idle?

Transmissions, Clutches, torque converters, Gear ratios, Brakes, Pads, etc.

What should the rpm read when at idle?

Post by AznRice2Nice »

I own a suzuki Forenza...... just got it back from the shop after replacing the clutch pad.

Im trying to figure out what caused my clutch to wear out so quick.

When im at idle i realized my rpm is at 1000.... shouldn't it be at 0?

Also i realized when my car is in neutral and close to stopping, my rpm is still around 2000, until i completely hit the brakes and bring the car to a stop......any idea what may be causing this?

when rpm is at 0, that means your rate per minute is 0... meaning the engine is off. At idle, the car should be between 600-1000 rpms.

thats a very big range Acing!... mine idles between 825 and 850 RPM with A/C off.

if you got idling speed issues AznRice2Nice then try an IAC cleanup job then reset your ECU, for more detailed instructions on that, go to the "How to section"

I have a forenza... mine idles at 900-1000rpms.

About yoru other question about it staying a 2k rpms... thats just becuase your crank pulley and flywheel are really heavy. Not to mention the restrictive intake and exhaust.

600-1000 I meant for any car. Somewhere in that range is fine. My car idles around 950-1000 rpms. :)
