5-speed Leganza or Nubie?

Post by pontiacjeff »

I have yet to see a 5-speed leganza or nubie. Did they sell them in the US? What model is the trans? F20? What is the US equivalent. Is it the Isuzu-built 5-speed or the NVG T550?

I'm hoping it'll be easier to find a woo 5-speed than the older Getrag from a 2.0 turbo. They are getting harder and harder to find.

So what is the D20/F20? Is it a German 5-speed (Getrag) or an Asian 5-speed (Isuzu)? Or other? Anyone know?

D20 is the Getrag-based F20, with the addition of a hydraulic clutch system. The gearbox is otherwise identical to F20.

The Grand Am uses a cable system for the clutch throw out right??

So I guess it would be a bit of a pain to use a D20..... I wonder how hard it would be to modify a Grand Am/Sunbird to use a hydraulic clutch.

I guess you could allways order in some parts from an F20 and convert the D20 back to cable drive.

NubiraPower.... you probably have the D16.... which should be good for about 200hp at the crank?? ( TOM???? You should know this well )

The D20 is usually found with the 2.0L and it should be an easy swap... it should drop in where your D16 was without modifications (or atleast I think so)

I don't know what gearbox I have. I understand that is good for 200hp but can't I change my gearbox with one with closer ratio? 10x

The 88 Grand Ams use hydraulic clutch release.

Is the D20/F20 the same 5-speed as the 98-up Cavalier/Sunfire? There is also a newer 5-speed called the F23. Anything about it? I know the F23 is used behind the 2.2 Ecotec Saturn/Chevy/Pontiac/Olds.

Oh.... ya there should be lots of different setups gear ratio wise.

Check your owners manual and try and match it up with the gear ratios that are listed in this area of the forum to figure out which transmission you have.

Saddly the only European tranny to find it's way over here was the F16.... and that was in the Lemans/Optima with the 1.6L and 2.0L SOHC TBI.

The F23 is used on the American Ecotec which has no relation to our engines.

There are a couple of nice european trannies available.... the F35 and F40.

I'm hoping like hell that the Chev Malibu (AKA Opel Vectra) gets a manual tranny sometime in the near future... since there is a posibility that it might come with an F35 or F40

There are several cars which could be candidates for a euro getrag tranny but right now they only come in automatics :(

Right now the only car I'm trying to get a really good look at is the Saab cars with the 6spd (hopefully the F40)

I went to the car show expecting to see one but they only had lower end crappy models with automatic transmissions!!!!

Even at the dealership they didn't have a 6spd in the show room.... now that it's nice out I might have to drop by and look at the ones on the lot.

the gear ratios of my transmission are:

1 3.545
2 2.048
3 1.346
4 0.971
5 0.763
backwords 3.333
final ratio 4.176

So ... what gearbox do I have? What gearbox do you recomand me? Do I have to change the clutch too for the gearbox? 10x

Nubira Power: Those are the same gear ratios of my car. I changed the differential to 3.94. It got better on the took off but the first and second stayed the same and third increased 10 miles.

I want to find a transmission where the first is less than 3.545 compatible with mine.

eljunito, I want to find a transmision with very close ration. I don't know if it exists but this is what I want.
I changed the differential to 3.94
How can I do this to my car? What car do you have? What code do I have to my transmision? 10x
