Please read this before ordering. If your 2.0 or 2.2 16V motor is equipped with aluminum oil pan, and the girdle, then 0.5" long spacers will need to be fabricated at your local machine shop. I was told to use 4340 material.

The difference is due to the shape of main cups. If you do not want to use spacers, then get set of main bearing from model using metal oil pan, or any sunbird 2.0 OHC (including the C20GET).

i dont understand!? is it a clearance issue. if so why no problems from the factory. or is it that you're talking about bolt, not studs and the bolt are too long? if they are studs and they'er too long why not cut them and chase the threads with a die.

You cant machine ARP bolts in any form. I mean you *could*, but then using them is like playing russian rullette. As you can see, the difference comes from the shape of the caps. ARP units are designed to work with the 'flat top' style, while the other caps have a step, which then makes the unthreaded part of the stud to stick out by roughly 0.5"

what's worse, the chance of a .5" spacer failing or messing up the finish/ heat treated surface of the stud? i think if the side that you cut was threaded into the bock you wouldn't see any disadvantage.
what's the price for a set?

4340 material is common for spacers on the small block chevy, and chances of them failing are close to none (at least as per shop that build my motor - they are the most reputable performance shop in the city with the wait time of about 4 months. They care a lot about their name, and I am certain they would not go ahead with a modification that would be potentially dangerous to the motor)

As far as price goes, you can get them for about US $100. Part number is 209-5401 http://www.import-racer.com/sku/arp-209-5401
