after a long awaited three months...

Post by gse_turbo »

i finally have my internals back, i had the...

crank knife-edged, balanced and cryoed (dropped 6Lbs)
flywheel lightened, balanced and cryoed (dropped 3Lbs)
factory rods bored for floating rist pin, big end reconditioned, balanced and cryoed
8.5:1 Wisco pistons and rings cryo treadted

with these internals and the UD pulley i've dropped just over 10Lbs of rotating mass that will make for great responce.

Looks nice...ten pounds is definately gonna give you a nice improvement of the feel of the motor. If you don't mind me asking...how much did it cost to get the crank and rods done?

did you have the entire assembly ( crank, flywheel, rods, pistons ) balanced or were they done individually?

i spent...

• $200 for one shop to cut the 3lbs off, surface and balance the flywheel and do all the work to the rods
• $500 for the pistons, pins and rings (no balancing needed ofcourse)
• $450 to have the cranks knife-edged and everything balanced again
• $200 to have everything cryo treated
• $200 for the UD pulley
bringing the total to $1500

the thing with L4's and L6's is that you don't need to balance everything assembled or the crank 'bobed'.

everything was balances by the same shop but seperatly. then the rods and pistons were assembled and checked for balance again (based on wieght, top and bottm seperate).

Thanks so much for that info on the prices. How much hp do you think that will be good for?
and what boost level?

not really sure yet i'd like to say that this motor can build around 600-800 hp but i'll be conservative and say 400 easily.

i'd rather give a low number and be surprised with a high one cause it would suck if it were the other way.
