I am pretty cluey on the electronics of a car considering i worked in the auto electronic trade for a number of years. to me this gismo would work.
i want to find out toher people thoughts on it.

all that is is a resistor made to look all pretty. its the classic ebay "more hp for nothing". its garbage, leave it alone.

I figured as much, in theory a resistor in the air flow sensor would probably work, but doubt it would have large gains.
It would probably work better putting the sensor closer to the cleaner and closer to colder air.
