1.6 dohc turbo (New pics added)

Post by jidasas »

Ok...I am getting my income tax back and I have decided to use the money and my savings to begin the build up of my 2000 daewoo lanos. I currently have 135000 miles on it so I decided to order a new block from gm to start. From there I plan on running forged pistons (8.8 compression) and rods and having the crank and entire rotating assembly lightened and balanced. Next step will be to have the head ported and polished. That will take most of the money that I have right now.

My future plans will be to locate performance valve springs and other components for the head and to run either and smt 7 or standalone from perfect power...I already have a turbo (and all the needed parts to install it) which I plan on using for the car after all of the bottom and top end work is done. I am hoping to be able to run it at 14 psi on the street and 20 psi on the track.

Sadly the new block will sit in storage while I get the head finished and when everything is done I will put the new engine in my car.

Ok...so I know what I want for the engine but what I need is a good starting point for the tranny. It's an automatic and I have looked at companies that build tranny's for the cavaliers and the cheapest I have found to get one built is around 3,000 dollars. I was wondering if I could buy the parts elsewhere and have it built locally cheaper?

Anyway, I just wanted to get the info on my plans out there and see if anyone had any suggestions that might help me during the build or knew of problems that I may encounter.

Thanks

Jimmy

Ok...got my tachometer installed and I am going to go ahead and hook up my boost guage in the next week or so...will get pics soon as i get my camera back from work...they are using it for a project for the next couple days. I am planning on installing all my guages before I get the turbo put in. I noticed my first post was a little jumbled so I thought that I should clarify my plans.
The engine building and head work will not go on now because I needed the money to help my gf pay her rent and car insurance and a couple other bills.
Step 1. Install turbo on current engine and run maybe 6 psi. (use smt 6 or 7 to tune) Finish by July of this year

Step 2. Get engine block and start building new engine. Finish by December of this year.

Step 3. Build Tranny. Finish by June 08

Step 4. Install turbo on new engine and install new tranny. (this is where I want to run 14 psi) Finish by December 08

Just beware that the 8.8-1 pistons that IPP (Flatlander) list, aint 8.8-1.

I had to send my ones back to Wiseco along with a sample Woo piston to get the correct ones made.

thanks...can I order pistons from other companies...I thought that someone mentioned getting eagle and some other company to make them...I was thinking of seeing if I could get a custom one off set maybe at 8.0 or 8.5 comp.

but for now I will settle with the 4 psi on stock internals except for bolts and studs

thanks

Thanks jimmy

If you know where to get the autotrans...please let me know:) I would really rather have it.

third brake light

Post by jidasas »

I never noticed this...but my girlfriend showed it to me.

look at the third brake light in the lanos hatch...it looks like a stretched out daewoo emblem when you mash the brake!

am I the only one who missed this?

performance question

Post by jidasas »

thanks...I'm gonna order it next monday.

What kind of improvement in 0-60 should this provide if any? and I need a 0-60 of around 9 seconds...by looking at subachads stuff I should be close to that...the only thing he did that I didn't is enlarge the intake opening...but I'm still running approximately 19 sec quarter at 70ish miles an hour? I would like to see 80 in a quarter at least...before i go turbo.

Thanks again

it will just bascilly make it shift harder. its nice if your gonna be racing alot, it makes it hit the gear instead of slipping into it, just dont have it too stiff for every day driving, it will help to wear out your tranny faster (im proof of that)

thanks

I'm going to get my exhaust enlarged (2.25 inch) in a day or two...maybe I can pick up something there...still gonna run a resonator but probably not a second cat. I'm just afraid of losing to much torque down low in the rpm range...maybe opening up the intake more will help with that though.
