F28 gearbox fitting?? (really in a big trouble)

Post by LacettiGT »

at last my tranny arrived and mechanic started fitting...but...
he's been in hard time to get it fitted.

first of all, position of mount (front part of the box) is different from D20
and backward part of gearbox is interfered with worm gear.
joints of driveshaft seem not to be fitted.

I wonder Lacetti in Korea and Forenza in US are different from each other at all,
since Kinkyllama has fitted the box on Forenza not having much trouble.
I think mount problems are easy to solve but have no idea how to kick off problems below

about interference with worm gear : should I remove backwards part of gearbox? I think no gears in there.

about driveshaft misfit : Should I have bought Calibra's driveshafts with the box?

what should I do now??

D20shafts won't fit the f28. As for the worm gear? Do you mean the gear linkage? If it's off the d20 aswell, it won't fit, as far as i know

Oh yeah I forgot to ask in the PM, what's the worm gear?

I used D20 shafts...well I used rally F28 shafts but one broke (probably due to improper installation) but I do have one D20 shaft on.

I wasn't very involved when my F28 was put in, I was on vacation at the time so didn't get to see it much. I just looked on the paper work and it says custom axle seals but that could have just been because I didn't provide new axle seals and they aren't always easy to find on a moments notice for our cars.

shafts seem to be no problem

Post by LacettiGT »

i saw D20's shafts fit to F28... :)

the real problem is fitting position. when engine is fitted with box, the position goes frontward.

"worm gear" means "steering gear"
though gearbox - engine connection went frontward, back part of gearbox interferes with it.

and right engine mount is stuck firmly, fitting axis must be changed. would be OK?
will post image of steering gear - back part of gearbox interference.

Sorry I took so long with the pictures...jacking up my car is a huge PITA with how low it is so I waited till I was under there to replace the rack&pinion.

Some of these pictures are almost the same and not too helpfull so let me know if you want anymore of specific areas--it's hard to get good pictures with the limited space even with the car on jacks.

Nothing was modified on my car to fit the F28 other than the mount. But good luck replacing the rack and pinion with it....I'm having allot of trouble. Theres barley enough room to get some of the bolts off, then there isn't enough to get the rack/pinion out so I had to saw off the bolts and run too 5 stores to find a new dremal cause mine caught on fire  . I'll just have to put shorter ones in though so it's not that big of a deal

Hope this helps,
Danny
