Update - One headlight almost done

Post by exist3nce »

Passenger side headlight is almost done and we needed to do some test fitting/aiming. Better pictures will follow when everything is complete!

The stock motor is on its way out.

Post by exist3nce »

Past few days have really gone downhill. Blowing oil smoke at idle intermittently, consuming up to 1L of coolant a day without any obvious leaks, and 1 really fouled plug LOL. I can't really complain though it held up well for an abused stock motor...... 45,000km boosted and daily driven (hard lol).

Look at cly number 3!!!

Should be swapping in my spare on Monday and if everything goes well be boosting again by Tuesday.

Also the Retrofit is complete, I just got the lights back today. I should have some pictures soon.

yeah thats one hell of a fouled plug. are you doing any thing to the new engine or is it just gonna be stock boosted? you cant complaine about that engine, 2+ years of boost and hard driveing totaly stock internals, yeah it did good!

Just throwing my stock spare motor in for now (no time or money ATM to build it). When I pull the dead one out I'll probably take it apart to see where the problem is..... i'm expecting at least a broken head gasket.

It wasn't quite 2 years........... almost exactly 1.5 yrs.

still gives me faith that my motor will hold longer than a few months. altho, when u ask the techs at the dealerships, they all seem to tell me that the 1.6 is a pretty tough motor to break.

Well I couldn't resist so I drove it anyways to a grocery store 2 mins from my house.

Heres how the beam looks.....

Not bad, except I think the driver's side needs to be rotated counter-clockwise a bit.

It does provide ALOT more usable light on the road than any HID kit in a halogen reflector which is great!

Nice. How's the cut off? Pictures are hard to tell the difference between decent and great.

How many watts are your HIDs?

Can you see the picture of the cutoff against the wall? Its a really sharp cutoff. The HIDs are standard 35W OEM bulb and ballast.

Yeah but pictures can lie...so is it comparable to OEM or identical to the factory FX35s whole factory setup?

My HID supplier sells HID projectors which include everything needed including a 55watt HID kit for $500 retail. That’s why I asked what watts HIDs you were using since I've noticed allot of people upgrade to the 55 watts when doing these conversions. I plan to do it to my lanos one day hopefully soon because halogens suck! Depending how easy it is and my dealer pricing I may do it to the fogs of the lacetti and lanos because the glare on my lacetti fog lights is just ridiculous. :?

How much were the FX35 projectors?
