I talked to my mechanic today and he is gonna start making the adapter to mount the turbo to the stock exhaust manifold, he says it should be ready by April 16 and he should be able to start the downpipe. As soon as the parts are done I will post pics. I am gonna go ahead and install everything and make sure the turbo fits right (run the wastegate wide open till I get sufficient fuel control) and then we are gonna work on getting the boost on. Hopefully 4 psi will be going in the motor by Late May early June.

My mechanic has been overloaded for a bit and hasn't finished the adapter yet...I just got news that I will be getting a little bit of money around early May so, I am gonna go ahead with trying to find new pistons, rods...I haven't been able to find a forged crank though? Would having it cryo treated, lightened and knife edged and balanced be enough for my ultimate goal of 300 hp? I've been working on polishing the compressor housing of my turbo and should finish that by tomorrow and post a pic. After removing the comp housing I noticed a very very small amount of shaft play, not in and out just side to side, With the comp housing on I didn't notice it but since I can actually touch the comp wheel I noticed it...Should I rebuild it to be safe or could it just be because of no oil pressure inside of the turbo...I can't see any signs of the wheel hitting the housing or of oil leaking out into the housing. I also purchased another bov...I found a turbo xs rfl for 60 bucks and got it.
I've been thinking about which computer I want to use and I wonder if anyone can tell me which is easier to tune our cars with..apex, emanage, or smt 7? Also, my mechanic recommended leaving the head to a stock rebuild and porting and polishing...he said stiffer valve springs should not be neccessary-is that right? seems like the boost should make a need for more stiffness.

I also posted a wanted add for a 1.6 liter block...that way I can build it without making my car sit for a while.

Thanks

intercooler

Post by jidasas »

I am looking at mounting the intercooler and the one I have is almost eight inches tall...so I need to put the top two inches of it behind the metal bumper...would it be better to just try and find a five inch one that would tuck up neatly under the bottom of the bumper? Or can I cut out a small amount of the bumper and reinforce the top of it with some thick steel to keep the rigidness? I was thinking of cutting out a couple inches and putting a piece of one inch thick plate steel behind the rest of the bumper to reinforce it.

Thanks

Got Bov in mail today...I also bought a 12cm housing for my turbo...the old one had approximately a .86 a/r while this one is around a 0.58 I believe...either way its better.

Anybody use the DTEC BOOST CONTROLLER from Turbo XS...I thought about using that and the fuel management with it as a temporary way to tune my car and then go full standalone later.

DTEC from Turbo XS

Post by jidasas »

I will most likely be using the Dtec that works with the gameboy advance for a short time at least...Mainly because I like the idea of having the knock lite, and other sensors work completely through the gameboy advance that I can take out of my car when I am gone and no one will be able to tell what all has been done to the car...i.e. no huge tachs, or large amount of guages. The dtec will monitor the boost, egt, knock, can have up to three fuel maps I plan on one for street and one for track, air/fuel can also be monitored. All I have to do is make sure that my mechanic can make the system work for my car. I will still have the boost and oil psi guages but nothing else should be neccesary. OH, you can also use the dtec to do wideband O2 tuning.

I'll talk to him later and see. Hopefully I can use this cause it seems like a decent setup.

Update

Post by jidasas »

Update:

Bought fang grill from Daewooluvr.

In process of purchasing a block.

Once block is bought I will rebuild it with the low comp forged pistons and forged rods and have the crank in the block lightened, balanced, cryotreated, and knifedged. Hopefully that will be done by Christmas.

I'm just gonna take this build a step at a time from now on. I was getting to caught up on purchasing parts I won't need till later in the project. So, I'm going to build it and order the parts as they are needed instead of randomly buying things-I mean I have all the turbo stuff but won't be able to use it till my engine is built. I will get it done...it just may take me a while. All in all though I love working on the car and cars in general so it should be a fun time.

you have the same cd player that I have! and same woo, but now I have a 240sx.

but definately looking good man, one thing I would do though is to make sure that you get a manifol made and not just add on to the stock exhaust manifold. a tublar manifold shouldn't cost more than 350 or so custom made.

Sweet...that cd player is eight years old now lol I had it in my camaro...speaking of which I met with my friend matt today to look at a camaro and I'm 95% certain I'm gonna buy it so the woo is gonna go on the back burner for a bit...I can get the car for between 200 and 400 dollars so I can't really pass it up.

The dude over the dealership screwed me on that deal...He decided he would only sell it for 900 when I got there...I told him no and wouldn't budge over 200 cause they had siezed the engine...He got angry with me and said no way...I went back there yesterday...it's been over three weeks and he still has the car  He tried to tell me they would sell it at auction but when the took it no one bid on it  I think it is hilarious...he could have saved 200 bucks and sold it to me instead of having a gigantic paper weight on his lot.

Oh well, just means more money for the woo. And being a short as I am on money that doesn't say much. lol

advice wanted.

Ok guys, I need some good input on what to spend my next 1,000 dollars on.

Here's what I already have for my turbo setup.

2nd block on the way
turbo
intercooler
bov
wastegate
piping
adapter to mount turbo to stock exhaust manifold
2.0 injectors

What I am wondering is should I purchase a piggyback and start hooking all this stuff up and run about 4 psi till February when I'll get a little more money and can order forged internals.
Or should I go with building the extra block when it gets here and wait to turbo it till February?

I really want to feel this thing on boost...but I worry about doing damage to my engine. If I knew it wouldn't damage the head if something went wrong I'd go ahead and boost it for sure since I'm getting a second block anyway.
