I would recommend 10-40 oil, I've been using AMSoil 10w40 full synthetic for about 10 months now and its great.

Good synthetic oil will never harm. Its pricey, yes, but will extend life/wear of your motor and the turbocharger on the long run.
The GSI is running on ELF Excellium NF 5W40 Synthetic motor oil - A high performance fully synthetic oil designed for high RPM use and protection at extended change intervals. Meets the following ratings: VW/Audi 502.00 and 505.00, BMW LL-98, Opel/GM LL-B-025, Daimler/Chrysler 229.3, Porsche, ACEA 2004 A3/B3/B4, API SL/CF. Pricing-wise, its really expensive, at CAD $78/5l (compared at say $34 for Castrol Syntec 4.4l), but gives me peace of mind.

Oil filter-wise, I am using WIX filters, which trap and hold essentially all the contaminant particles larger than 25 microns, also features Silicone Anti-Drainback Valve (as opposed waxed paper or nitrile).
