Don't let this get you down...... cracked custom manifolds happen..... perhaps the weight of the wastegate wasn't properly supported.

Easy enough to fix..... just weld it back on and add some extra support braces...... 1" X 1/8" thick stainless pieces would work just fine.... ideally make a triangular shape..... so two supports coming off the manifold to the sides of the wastegate pipe and one underneath (ideally all at roughly 45 deg angles )

As well..... you may want to consider Heat treatment of you manifold to remove the stress created during the process of welding.

Here is a good site to explain..... http://www.azom.com/details.asp?ArticleID=1141

It cracked right at the point where the wastegate is welded on, and now the whole W/G is off and there is a big hole in the front of the manifold
What manifold are you using? I bought a cracked-up SS Autochrome 4-tube header for an Acura B-series engine (paid 10-bucks) and cut the flange off it. I made my own 'woo flange and welded it up after tweaking the pipes a little. It looks like this:

I had this turbo manifold from xs.It was for Nissan SR20DET.Inever had any problems.I think that it's a good manifold.

Now i use a bigger turbo and i put this manifold that it's custom with 46mm tubes.

Manifold/Wastegate Fixed

Post by exist3nce »

Back from my vacation.....

My shop has done an awesome job to weld and brace the wastegate. They even made a brace for the turbo and manifold, and also extended the w/g dump tube. Heres some of the pics....more to come soon.

Who built the manifold originally? Was it intended for another engine and modified with a 'woo flange? It looks like a pretty nice piece, despite the w.g. breaking off. What kind of power are you making and what boost now? What are the specs on the turbo? All you say in your sig is T3/T4. I am most curious at what rpm you get full boost. If you are at full-throttle in 4th gear accelerating from below 3000rpm?

I can;t get full boost before 4200-4400rpm. I do have a large .82a/r turbine. I want to go to a .63 or .58, I am looking for advise from others.

Hey Exist3nce glad you're boosting again. Your shop did a nice job on the mani with the welds looks very strong & the brace was a very good idea, I doubt now you'll get anymore troubles with it.

A shop called Neetronics originally built the manifold. It was 100% custom made to fit my motor. Power is 230whp/245wtq currently with about 10psi, you can see the dyno details a page or 2 back in my thread. We're not 100% sure about the exact specs on the turbo other than its supposedly good for up to 300whp, as the previous shop never let me know despite asking them. Based on how it acts, we believe it would be closest to a T04E 46 trim with a stage 2 turbine. If I load it up in 4th gear from 3000RPM I get the desired 10psi by 4000RPM and it spikes to 12psi by 4200RPM. This might be laggy for some, but I'm happy with it.

Looks good.... hopefully that's the last of your manifold problems.

TO4E 46 trim looks like it would be a good compressor.

Got an amazing deal on some Toyo T1R tires this weekend. $450 for a set with only 200 KM on them. Also replaced my rear pads and rotors......... they started grinding as the pads were right down to the rivets LOL.
