No they're not, been there awhile ago when changing to a 2.0 8v that was auto.

You can use the friction plates and clutches but not flywheels. small blocks clutches/plates are smaller in diameter than the big blocks. something like 20mm or so of difference dont remember well. biting surface is smaller but they work OK on big blocks.

they can be drilled, thats what we did with mine, i dont remember exaclty how many holes we drilled, its been like 4/5 years from that, later on i found a big block flywheel.

All the other surfaces are the same on the Aveo flywheel versus the Leganza flywheel..... same flywheel diameter.... same biting surface..... the only difference is the size of the bolt holes and the total radius ( general pattern of bolt placement is the same )

I remember GsiTurbo saying something about the 1.6 8V vs 2.0L 8V flywheels being different..... clutches on the 1.6L were smaller

Well thats something learned :)

The 2.0 flywheel is in and the engine is now in the car bolted up the tranny, the rest of the tranny components bolted up without problem, now all i need is the alternator bracket and the front one to bolt the power steering and stuff. I also need a new cat, the 1.6 cat's bolt holes are just a tad off from the 2.0's exhaust manifold, 2 bolts fit but the 3rd one doesnt. Hopefully the 2.0's cat bolts to the downpipe, else ill need a downpipe as well.

Stay tuned

Congrats on getting the engine and stuff in fairly hassel free. But, instead of spending big bucks on a new cat or downpipe, would you not thinking of getting 2 new flanges made up and machined for downpipe, then welded onto the cat inplace of the old 1.6 flanges... very little expenses at all?

the 1.6/2.0 flywheel issue was encountered during the 2.0 nubira swap... it is documented in the post... flywheel won't line with crank and studs are too short to fit

It's finally done, my post on Aveoclub.net has more info if you wanna look there, but after many hours of work and a nifty bill the car runs perfectly with the U20SED in it.

Theres still a very small amount of work ill do on my own but its very much driveable now.
