How to: Calibrate fuel gauge

Post by MMamdouh »

Does your fuel gauge read incorrect fuel levels?? Here is how to cure it.

1- Fill the gas tank to the top... this way you know that the correct position of the fuel gauge needle is at the top mark.

2- Take off the dash parts as instructed in the "Dash removal" in the how to section...
http://www.daewootech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2193

Follow the instructions till the step of removing the clear dome cover of the gauge cluster.

3- take off the fuel gauge needle, it comes off with little force but make sure you don't bend the axle it sits on during the process.

4- Put the 3 sockets of the gauge cluster back on and install the 4 screw drivers back on as if you are reinstalling it back on the dash... Don't put the clear plastic dome on.

5- Turn on the ignition key in the normal operating position (where you get the CEL, oil pressure, alternator & hand brake to light on).

6- keep the ignition on for 1 min. while doing nothing to the gauge, this way the fuel gauge is getting signal from the transmitting unit in the fuel tank and the gauge sits in the correct position and clears any flicks occurred during removing the needle.

7- Carefully put back the needle back on its axis where the needle points to the top mark on the gauge, it is really hard to put it without flicking it left and right so you have to be patent and precise during the process (the ignition is still on).

8- Leave the gauge for another 1 min. to make sure that the needle sits right on the top mark with no deviations whatsoever

9- If it moves away from the mark then take off the needle and restart the process of calibration all over again from step 6.

10- If the needle sits correctly then turn off the ignition, take off the gauge cluster screws, take off the 3 sockets and remove the cluster out of the dash.

11- Reinstall every thing back on... follow the dash removal steps in reveres order.
