Scuff [I hate rust]
Hi everyone, I stumbled upon this site by accident tbh, I've been looking for an english speaking daewoo forum for the longest time..
I've a 2.0 8v engined Daewoo Nexia [glxi] 4door, named Scuff :]
The engine conversion was done by my friend and I before i bought the car, here's a list of the mods so far;
2.0 8v engine from an Opel Kadett/Vauxhall Astra mk2
Pi 40mm Lower Springs
KYB Stiffened Nitrogen shocks all round
Vauxhall Cavalier SRI Fanblades
Scorpion exhaust and makeshift 'de-cat'
Vauxhall Astra GSI Wishbones and new droplinks
New fuel lines
FSE Fuel Pressure regulator
M3 style Wingmirrors
Oval Side repeaters and black mesh front grille
Treated petrol tank
Kadett/Astra mk2 GTE Interior
I've still a few things still to do when i get the time, like;
Kadett/Astra mk2 GTE Rear suspension arm and rear disks,
F20 Gearbox
Kadett/Astra Digital Dash [Peak not crescent shaped rpm guage]
Things I have planned for the future are, fix rear arches, as they're rusting like all Kadetts/Astra's do, and possibly fast road/track cam&ecu, or possibly a turbo conversion on my 8v, or branch out and get a c20XE/c20LET, the 2.0 16v/ 2.0 16v turbo.
Here are some pics;
The car when i first got it, with Kadett/Astra mk2 white GTE wheels
Opel Kadett wheels on it now
New Mirrors, latest picture to date, not up to date though

Thanks m8, I love the interior too, the front buckets are so comfy. I was just looking at your project, it's coming along rightly man. Should be a nice toy when it's finished.
My car's currently garaged atm to keep it dry/going to do the suspension arm and new gearbox soon. Should be good fun, gonna treat the suspension arm first, get a metal bristle brush for the grinder and rub it down and paint it. May aswell do it right the first time huh?
[EDIT]: Ps. sorry for shit quality pictures

Unfortunatly funds are low atm, so other than the rear suspension arm, disks and gearbox there's not much else I can do yet. I'm still in school you see and exams are coming up, and the worst part of all. I still havent even got my driving license yet. Thats a big, big priority next to exams atm.
The car's also garaged in a shed about 30 mile from my house so accesiblity is limited to when my friend's going up to work on his toys. But i'll keep yous updated :b

Few Updates: Started rubbing down the rear suspension arm. Getting some waxol paint for it tomorrow. The 4" grinder I was using broke so It's getting rubbed down by hand ><
Gonna get some paint [41l I'm pretty sure] and start on my arches soon and possibly my front bumper, need some high build primer for that though, and lots of sand paper...
Oh and some Caliper paint, probably black or red, the rear calipers I'm putting on are Lime green
Here're some pics, sorry about the quality, had to use phone...
My Petrol tank, 2nd attempt at treating it, first time i forgot to tighten the fuel pump hose and it stripped the paint back again..
Astra GTE Rear suspension arm [disks and calipers not on yet, but sitting somewhere cosy]
Not the grinder sitting beside it it blew up 10 seconds into using it
My f20 gearbox and a sneak peak at the back of my car
Keeping her nice and dry and scrape free
Oh and, a sneak preview at my friend's car, he's got some big stuff planned for it, gonna be one mean Nexia

Ugh. Disaster. While taking my old wheels off [they're sold now as a PX on the fanblades] my friend noticed some air pockets, or rust bubbles on my sill at the bottom of the rear arch, he poked one and water actually squirted out of it. Clearly this wasnt a good sign as the paint we used for the sills seems to have been hording paint inbetween the middle and outside skin of the sill. Unfortunatly, it seems to have been doing this un-noticed for a while now and about a 8inch long piece of my sill has actually crumbled away it was that badly eroded.. Some welding and patching to be done soon, which i'll mainly be leaving up to my friend as i'm hopeless at welding... but here's some pics, I'm truely gutted about it.
[ps. the bumpy texture isnt rust it's an underbody seal paint that we used on the sills to tidy them up a bit.. Hammerite ftw.
Pile of rust lyin on the floor

Me too m8, gonna get my suspension arm painted and set it to the side to dry, cause i've it all rubbed down to the tin so I don't want the surface rust coming back before I get the chance to paint it, then the arches and this sill [the other one's solid as a rock] are my top priority, had no idea they wbecame this bad.

Well the suspension arm's painted and I went back after just over a week to check out the real damage to my sill with my friend.
It's actually a lot worse than i expected...
Here's the pics,
This is the view looking directly up from the ground at it.
This is from kinda where the rear tyre is looking down toward the front of the car
This is the inner arch. As you can see it's completely rusted through the inner arch, and the outer skin of the sill, taking some of the other folds with it. You can actually see through 2 holes here, right to the floor.
Really gutted about this, what makes it worse is I can't do much until like, mid january? I've exams coming up and very little spare time... I suppose i could set aside a day for fixing it. Inner arch needs a plate welded in and some tidying up, my friend's got me a new replacement sill and rear arch so, i currently love that guy right now.
On a brighter note, here's a long delayed picture of my engine bay, wanting to keep it as stock looking as possible, maybe with the addition of a sway bar later on.
Again, sorry for bad quality but I never bring my digi cam with me and my phones the next best thing

Nice Nex mate Keep up the good work!
I have only one question; how come is this car SO rusty? Mine is 1996 and it has not even a shade of rust :/ Anyway; get rid of it
As for the gearbox; don't mount F20- for this engine D16/F16 is much better Oh yeah; and as far as I remember Opel Gearbox doesn't have tha mount for hydraulic clutch pump ( i think I should call it like this in english :P ) So You'll have to work it out somehow
Oh yes - and the last thing - timing gear cover - You should buy one if You don't have it :P
Very nice wheels - the second ones - i think they would look best black, or polished
Greets and keep us posted :"D

Crying or Very sad Mine is 1996 and it has not even a shade of rust :/ Anyway; get rid of it Very Happy

My nexia never came with a hydraulic clutch. It was always cable driven, from factory, so mounting the f20/other opel/vauxhall gearboxes is no problem. They're a direct replacement. Shafts are the same too. [Not for the f28 i think]
As far as the f16/d16 being better. I've been in both a 2.0 8v and a 2.0 16v Nexia with the Nexia f16 bolted on and it's not as good as the f20. My friend has a nexia with a 2.0 8v w/ f20 and is building a 2.0 16v w/f20 atm, and having been in both a 2.0 8v w/16 and, the same car with the f20, I can see the f20 is a lot better.
Anyway, I havent been at my car in ages now. Have been busy with helping other people with their cars and recently, the past month revising for exams in school. My last one is on Monday and that week I hope to go back up and assess the damage rust and rot has done to my sill while ive been gone.
Apart from that, in between revision etc, i've a few small updates on my wheels. Started stripping the paint and primer off them to bring them back to the metal for a refurb.
Tools used: Nirtomorse. Paint scrapper, and some rubber gloves!
Place: My shed in my back garden 10pm+shed+electric heater+seat+mp3 player= good times.
I started stripping the first wheel back of the paint and primer:
Brought, for the most part, the paint right down to the metal using the nitromorse and now this wheels gone as far as it's going too with nitro morse, and the rest will be sanded down with sand paper, reducing the course-ness as the paint gets further down. Once brought back to the metal it'll be checked for imperfections/curbing and then filled and using a high build primer, sprayed and rubbed down until it's perfect. Then sprayed gunmetal grey... probably. Or black xD i can't choose.
The next day, I went out again in the morning before i started revising for my exams.
Here's the wheel i'm about to start and the one I had nitromorsed the night before.
This wheel wasnt too rough, just some imperfections and small chips in the paint.
Paint blistering slightly;
Next, the effects of nitromorse!
The cleanest section of the wheel, after nitromorse. This is the same part of the wheel that i took a picture off, 2 pictures up.
The blistering paint in the picture just up a bit, after nitromorse:
Looks gruesome huh?
I let the nitromorse eat it's way through the paint until I was ready to scrape it off.
Havent got pics of both wheels with the paint and primer scraped off for the most part yet. Will start rubbing them down in my free time during the next couple of weeks. I've got all the time in the world
