end of phase 2
so i finished the fibreglassing part of the build today, but then again i ran out of daylight and warmth to do anymore. so i thought i'd do a test fit...
this coming week im gona be at university, so maybe next weekend i'll get a chance to filler and smooth evrything. then after that im not gona be at home for 2 weeks... so the next stage might take a bit longer than expected.

lol, the whole idea of this was to challenge whether it would work - hanging the subs off the rear seats - and it does!buddha102 wrote:i know u did ur best and took out lot of time, but wont it be eaiser just to set them like 45 degree angle and let them sit on the trunk?
all i wanted to find out really was whether the fibreglass would be able to support the weight, and with the subs not on the boot floor the spare wheel is accessible if need be.
i havnt yet finished it though, the surface is still very rough because i didnt have enough filler to cover it completely or even get a thick enough layer on one side to smoothe it properly.
still to come:
-finish smoothing the fibreglass box
-do a better paint job
-make "plinth" for amplifier to sit on between subs (or hide it)
possible future addition:
-3rd 8" subwoofer in between the 2 12" subs
possible further future alterations:
(the way this box is made it can be inverted so that the subs face into the car instead of the boot.)
(the edges of the box that hold it into place can be cut off so that the box sits on the boot floor.)
if i do decide to have it sitting on the boot floor i'll make it so that it replaces all the plastic trim in the boot, eg: it'll take up the entirety of the boot - but i need the space, for now.
because of how its made i can always sell it on, because it'll fit pretty much any other car with similar boot dimensions. chances are i'll get rid of it in the next 6 months and then start over again. (a friend of mine with a honda civic is very interested in either me making a boot build for him having seen mine - or i could just change mine to suit his car and sell it to him lol) i'm sure it can proble fit behind other cars' rear seats like it does in mine aswell.... and its probly a world first having subs hanging off the rear seats - so who wouldnt wana buy it?
and to further elaborate on a reply to buddha's remark... whats the fun in doing something if it's easy?

new bodge'it front lip
got a similar idea off countless other car forums and thought i'd adapt it to my own ideas...
i did consider taking pictures as i was doing it, but finished it befor i had a chance lol.
the main part of it is a simple rubber strip i got off ebay (cos no diy store round here seemed to stock anything similar) measuring 2500mmx50mmx3mm. - which had to be shortened to matched the bumper, altho i cut off about an inch too much cos i didnt measure a single thing, i did evrything by eye.
to this i attached mini right-angled brackets (that came with an old meccano set) using pop-rivets.
i used a 12v soldering iron (one that plugs in the cig lighter) to make a kind of centre punch for each bracket along the lip underneath the bumper to give the screws an easy start.
heres some other examples:

same here, ive still got my original fibreboard boot floor, but its broken in 2 or 3 places.jidasas wrote:I like the idea of hanging the subs like that. I know my 2 twelves weighed so much in a box that the little trunk shelf thing over the spare tire simply caved in...had to replace it with plywood.
