I do miss it sometimes, but the beemer is alrite - plus parts for it are soooo cheap! can get adjustable coilovers for £200 or 50mm springs for £80 and got a complete turbo kit on the way that I managed to source for under £700!!! And already got some BBS alloys on it that I found on ebay for £50... old bmw parts are ten-a-penny over here.
But I still miss the Lanos.

also, did you always have the sport spoiler on the lanos? did you just glue it or did you get the glass?

That spoiler has been on the car for about 3 years. I removed the bolts from it and used 3M double sided foam tape and clear silicon to fix it to the hatch glass. The double sided tape was just to keep it in place while the silicon set over 48 hours - the silicon is what holds it on.

Thats the day the wheels went on, still need to lower it - just look at that arch gap! Almost as bad as the Lanos was when I first got it.

I received my turbo kit for the beemer on Friday afternoon

It's a Mosselman kit (which used to retail at over £2000!! Yes, TWO grand.)
Comprising:
Garret T28 w/ T3 flange & preset 5.5 psi waste gate actuator
Manifold-Turbo adapter pipe
Down pipe
Braided oil feed line and 18mm drain pipe.
Oil drain sump adapter
Front-mount intercooler
Mandrell bent boost pipes. connectors & reducers
MAF sensor adapter plate

Along with what's in the kit, I even got a few extras thrown in:
Sump with the drain adapter already in place (my current sump becomes a spare)
Manual boost controller
2bar boost gauge
FSE rising-rate fuel pressure regulator
Spare MAF sensor
Spare BMW OEM inlet hose
Toyota/Denso recirculating BOV (from a Supra)
Spare BMW OEM exhaust manifold

ALL THIS FOR ONLY £680! Delivered to my front door. Bargain! Considering back in the day I spent well over £1000 fabbing the turbo for the Lanos, which wasn't nearly as complete as this.

Nope. No need.
It's gonna be set up very much the same as any Daewoo would be on a low pressure setup... and let the rising rate fuel pressure regulator do most of the work. And the MAF sensor would be set up for air to be drawn through it, rather than it having to deal with the boosted air. As for temperatures, I'm again using one-step colder spark plugs and the engine has knock sensors and adjusts timing accordingly.

Never will I own or work on another BMW!

I want my Lanos back... which in fact, is up for sale currently for a mere £200 or there abouts.

Only thing is, the yearly road tax alone is £270!

Anyway, so I've done the turbo conversion - and what a pain it was! - and these cars just have sooo many different pipes and hoses and issues and crap. And that air flow meter is just a down right PITA! So no whoooop-tsshhh BOV for me, it has to be re-circulated (until I find a way to fool the air flow meter)

At the moment it's not running properly though, think it's running way too rich - bogs down under full throttle, but picks up like stink under light throttle. Either way, to add more boost I need to get under the car, to adjust the fuelling I need to disassemble the inlet manifold (which is in 3 parts!! Damn Germans!) So, there's no easy way out no matter what I choose.

can you use what they use for astras and go for the twin piston valve? or just go for a recirc valve. My missus' astra has a Greddy RS plumbed back after the Air flow meter as well as a K&N cone and that has a really nice sneeze (tshhhh)

Yep, i'm currently using a recirculating valve, it makes a little bit of noise, but not a lot - not near as much as the Lanos did.

I've got it running a little better now, but very rich when cold. so rich in fact that, from a cold start if i touch the throttle before it's spent at least 5 minutes idling it floods the engine into misfiring. so it sounds like a quarter V8 when cold, but with only a tenth the power in a heavy car, sadly.

Well it seems my return to GM vehicle ownership is imminent. I have spent nearly a year now trying to track down my old Lanos, because it was the biggest mistake I ever made, getting rid of it. I fear it may well be in a scrap yard by now.
