disc converssion

Post by gse_turbo »

i got the waterjet back up and running so i thought that i'd put out a disc conversion for the lanos and other t-body cars with GSI or lanos rear beam.
what you get from me is a caliper mount in .5" (50.8mm) mild steel.
to that you have to add calipers assembly, wheel bearings and rotors from a '93 saturn, or other like models

the drums on the lanos are a .5" narrower then the rotor setup without the rotor mountso no spacers or track width adjustment is needed and you get to keep your 4x100 bolt pattern.

the bracket set is $60 and the rotor assembly is up to whatever you want to spend.

i'll post pics here soon of both the bracket and the step by step conversion.

Can this also be done for an Aveo? What would you need to get it done? PM me or email.

i have done the conversion on my car, pics are in the brakes & trani section.

for the aveo, the conversion is much easier but likely higher priced.
you will need to use the rear discs from a suzuki forenza or like model (reno), they will bolt right on.

thanks,
garrett

doesnt a rear disc conversion require a diffirent proportioning valve? We did one on a 90 civic and needed the integra proportioning valve. It bolted right in, and when we tried it without it hitting the brakes hard was like pulling the ebrake...crazzzy fun but impractical...if so then from which car do i get on if i do this? and i do want to. i have a 2001 Lanos

thats what i said, you can find adjustable proportioning valves, you will hav eto find a large open parking lot to adjust it in but its a easy fix (as far as i know)

Before the suspension swap out, I just used line pressure valves on the front. That way the front was "charged" to 10psi before I ever hit the pedal and they breaked easier.

The downside to the pressure velves is that the brake becomes a little touchy. It's not locking touchiy, but you brake sooner than normal.

Isn't breaking sooner the reason for upgrading to rear discs? Better stopping power = quicker stopping. :D

Thanks for the info guys... want to do this one day on my Woo.

If the rear brakes lock... and the wheels skid... they no longer have any grip, and the rear of the car will slide. If you 're in a relatively sharp curve and you need to brake (i.e. highway off-ramp), spinning would be a BAD thing

the good thing about modern GM is that nearly everything is compatible, nearly everything.
so if you're worried about the brakes locking up then pull the master from a GM car with rear discs and use it.
the best fit for a Lanos would be a Nubi and if someone out there were to buy the conversion brackets from me and wanted a Nubi master cylinder i can send one of those also.

hope this helps,
