Whats the weight of a engine?

Post by xiaogary »

Anyone know whats the weight of the Lanos/Aveo 1.6 engine and its parts weight individually?

I need to know the weight of the

1) Crankshaft
2) each cam shaft
3) each cam gear
4) each con rod
5) each piston
6) engine block with internals
7) engine block without internals
8) whole engine
9) flywheel

Just a thought, but there are 2 different valve covers for that engine... one is metal one is plastic. The wight difference is about 1 kilo there.

Also, the rods in the Lanos are cast, those in the Aveo are forged. There is about a .25kg difference in each rods with the Lanos being lighter, but weaker.

If you give me until sometime after the first I'll get all these things measured for you.

The 1.6L SOHC from my project Polar Express was 228lbs..... so the DOHC is probably a little bit heavier than that.

Thanks guys for the help.
Does that means if I am playing high compression NA or Turbo, I only need to change to forge piston? I can leave the con rod untouch?

I am planning to change to 80.0mm piston to replace the current 77.9mm. And put in the Lanos crankshaft which gives me 81.5mm stroke compared to current 73.4mm stroke in my Aveo 1.4DOHC.
