219kms to 3/4 of a tank of gas???
Does that seem right, I got new plugs, wires, and i even bought new bosch injectors but it seem to be worse with the injectors, i have no engine codes(cel), And i have an automatic 1.5l lanos, i have a new air filter, I just replaced my head gasket, and put new valve seals in, the head passed pressure testing. my exhaust is good, I just replaced both oxygen sensors, the only thing is my ait sensor on the intake got burnt a bit from welding, when we were making the strut bar, I also just changed the oil, And it has a new computer in it, sence the oldcomputer was submersed in water when i hydro locked my car, i can't afford the gas right now and i seem to have replaced everthing except the coil because it is going to cost me $330 can't afford that. i have two coils because i had a spare engine. but i don't know how to test them. help please, the car seems to run fine but you can smell gas when it is idling and even when i am driving

6 kms per liter... waaaaaaaay bad
normal is within 8 or 9 in city driving and can go up to 10.8 on highway

If your AIT sensor is burnt (in open circuit) the ECU think it's -40° outside and send alot of fuel.woodae wrote:well i am going to check over my car today but i need to know how to check a coil and the ait sensor and any suggestion on what else to check
You can check AIT electrical resistance with a multimeter (cheap device). Connect it in place of harness connector and you should read about 3520 Ohms at 20°C (68°F). There is a chart "resistance vs temperature" in service manuals, "engine controls" section.
BTW to check your fuel mileage do that from a full tank to the next one. I bet the fuel gauges are not linear.
Hope it helps
the correct gap is 0.8mm for 1.5 SOHC and 1.1 for 1.6 DOHCwoodae wrote:the gap on my spark plugs was 1.14mm way too much but it still seems to be hard on gas but it has a bit more power i put new plugs and gapped them

If your engine was not missing even with your "too wide" plug gap of 1.14mm ?
Than I am thinking that your coil-pack is fine. A weak coil would not be able to do that.
Remember, spark plugs don't give you power. All they do is ignite the compressed fuel/air mixture.
Any insect with a mini BIC cigarette lighter could do it.

AIT ? did you check it yet ?

I just have a question, my car is still hard on gas i did the full tank of gas thing and, i got 366 kms to a tank that was when the gas light came on plus 25kms.so thats 366 in total. My car is a 1.5l auto and i was wondering about the gearing. Is it a 5 speed or a 4 speed? Because when i am on the highway and i am in the last gear doing about 110kms/hr, i can step on the gas a little and the rpm will jump up, as if it was going down a gear, not a huge jump in rpm, but then if i step on the gas to the floor it will shift down to high rpm, as if it was in third gear, I know first gear goes to 60, second gear goes to 100, how can there be 3 more gears after that, if its a four speed. it has me stumped, maybe when it is in the last gear it isn't running right, and thats why it is hard on gas, because it is easy on gas in the city but hard on the highway. last night getting on the highway, it bogged for the first time in second gear. thanks
