Some questions about a air intake

Post by Wolf-Spirit »

Well 1st question is a bit simple is a cold air intake yust a tube to bottem of car and then a filter or not?

But my real question is if i would make a tube go from the gashouse (not sure if that is correct word) straight to the lower of the front fender and then put the airfilter on it..... would it pull in water? Cuase im from belgium and its rains here ALOT :s If so would turning the air filter so it will face the back of car keep the water out?

Hope someone can shed me soem light here considering i got a free week next week and want to spend soem time making it :)

I'm going to let someone else handle the details of this one but to answer your last question; turning the filter towards the back would probably not help to much. All the real CAI setups I have seen such as Aem, Iceman, Injen, have bypass valves for that purpose. If you can make your own bypass valve, you would have a solution, or call and order a bypass valve as a replacement part from one of the major manufacturers. Be careful inproperly setup CAI's and flood water don't mix my friend. Rain water is probably not that bad, depending on the ambient tempature the moisture collected in the stack will probably steam on or before contact with the manifold. On my old car (RIP) the moisture in the air caused a weasing or gasping for air sound that was annoying on start up. This went on until engine temps rose. Hope this helps a bit.

Do you mean one of those?

Air Bypass Valve

Not sure what it is by the picture or how it works but dont mind ordering one and fitting it if it can keep the moisture out my car.

well atm i went for a difrent thing... kinda temp but works ok :)

used some rubber hoses from intercoolers (old ones i had around) and placed the filter in the wheelhub behind the plastic cover .. meaning the air going in that conpartment is pretty cool and not to wet also (i hope) considering my front bumper has grills going to it

Air temp dropped from a 44c (filter in engine room and hot engine) to a cooler 28c (filter below engine compartment) so i geus it aint bad :)

Not 100% sure ofcourse (considering the low increase in hp) but i do think it has a bit more hp now.... used to make a big difrence in power during day/night now its about same

so geus it aint all bad :)
