2008 Saturn Astra has a stroked VVT lanos engine!!!!

Post by PrecisionBoost »

Hey guys, I just got my Astra VXR gearbox in and I was trying to compare pics to the F40 ( both the F40 and M32 are made by FGP )

Needless to say I came accross the 2008 GM lineup for powertrain and they list the engine in the Astra.

The big news is that it's a gen1 iron block powerplant..... so I belive it's simply a 1.6L that has been stroked and bored to maximum displacement.

Additionally.... notice the part about forged rods when you go into the specifications

This engine also has Variable valve timing so it might be possible to put this onto the 1.6L if you convert to the Siemens system.

Based upon info from another fellow asking about the Z18XE I'm 99% sure it's compatible with the 1.6L engine.

This is really good news since the 1.8L may use the same head design.... so if the Astra gets aftermarket support the parts should be compatible with the Lanos engine.

So.... if the 1.6L has a stock stroke/bore of 79 x 81.5 then this new 1.8L crankshaft combined with the 10.5:1 high compression pistons and stock steel forged connecting rods should give you a significant bump in power.

The 1.8L has a bore/stroke of 80.5 X 88.2

If you put the rods/crank into the 1.6L your displacement would jump from 1.6L to 1.73L
