Radiator cracked!!

Post by TxDAEWOOxT »

The plastic housing on the radiator broke and is leaking as fast as i can put it in. Is that a serperate peice or do i need the entire radiator? It is where the top hose clamps on to the radiator (connected to the tstat on the other side).

i think i may have found it!! It is on page 1610 in the manual and is the 12th item. I see that it is a part and it is in the manual but, does that part come off the radiator if i disasseble it. I couldnt see where it bolts on to the radiator in the dark. Can you guys take a look at the manual and see if you know what im talking about? Thanks alot guys!!

it is a separate part and i replaced it before

it is not bolted on instead the lip of the radiator is bent against the plastic lip of that part that is leaking... unbend the rad lip with a flat end screw driver and it will be out.

i have a co-worker and his wife works at NTB and she found the radiator. it was $180 and i bought it.

got it home and installed it.

i ran the car in park until it warmed up and check to see if the fans came on there own. checked if there were any leaks.

everything was fine so i took it for a drive. grabbed a bag of ice and drove home.

pulled into the house and the thermostat popped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now i cant find a damn thermostat.

damn it, damn it, damn it

Damn i wish i would have looked through the archives for that info.

I looked on ebay and found 1 thermostat. It just so happened that the guy was right next door to me.YES!!!!!!!! I went and met him about a hour after i left a message. He charged me $35 for the stat and it was a sweet transaction. Couldnt have worked out better for me.

I told him about daewootech and he said he was a member. His screen name was iemhouston or something to that nature.

I am back on the road again about $220 later. I found all my parts in town and things couldnt have gone better. Besides my car breaking after i fixed the radiator.

My thermostat was leaking so i tried to fix it with some gaskets i got from a local parts house. I got the leak to stop and when i put the clamp back on the top hose it must have cut into it(soaked in oil and thin). I cut some of the hose back, about an inch and fixed the leaking hose. When i did that it must have pulled the hose a little to tight. The radiator was the weak link there and it broke.

I got everything back together with a new radiator. Took it for a test drive and then the tstat popped.<----- bad luck

I got a new hose, tie rods and shocks. To come with the shock i needed to get a new rubber peice that sits on top of of the struts.

35 Dollars!!? You can get that sucker from Rock Auto online for 13.36 or http://www.gm-car-parts.com for 12.11!
I buy most of my Aveo needs online Before I need them. Common spare parts, ya know? Right now I've got a stat, a serpentine belt, wipers, plugs, hoses, and air, oil, and cabin filters. That way I don't have to scramble around trying to find stuff locally.....and I can search out the best prices on the net.
