MAP?

Post by caprice »

I tried running the car in differnt limp modes by running it one sensor unplugged at a time. Unplugging the MAP brought the GPH (on scangauge) from .5 to .1-.2. It says 14.2 PSI at engine off. weather.com says the barometer presure is 29.92 which is the same as 14.7 PSI. It that too big of a differnce? Electrical parts are NOT returnable! So I want to be sure before i sink $65 on a new MAP sensor that this is the part I need to finnally fix it. I don't want to be throwing parts at it.

Code 1404 sets after half hour of driving, so i inspected the egr valve. Sealed it up with duck tape to test it.
Ran perfect like a new car! Then i bought a used EGR, and it has the sloppy idle again.

Atleast I know what it is now.

Is this a common problem? what can I do to get the EGR to work properly?

EGR issues are very common on diesel engines. Some LPG users also prefer to block this valve by a metal shim in place of the gasket to get rid off annoying problems.
EGR is a "Engineer" way to stick to emission control. Cheap way...till the valve is clean.
Do a Google search with "EGR problem" and you'll get tons of topics.

EGR backwards.

Does your Daewoo Leganza Idle rough, surge, or at least unevenly? Does it set code 1404 intermittently? Here is a tip that is at least worth trying.

The design of the EGR is looks reversible. So I took it off and reinstalled it 180 degrees to what it was. It idles smooth now. I think the vacuum side was on the exhaust side, and the pressure of the exhaust and the vacuum on the other side push the plunger to open, causing a "leaking" EGR valve! This was a very pesky problem no one had an answer to. Searches for Idle problems and "code 1404 Daewoo" turned up nothing. May I suggest this become a FAQ?
