sounds to me like your thermostat died, you need to replace the thermostat and all should be well

will a malfunctioning coolant temp sensor affect the engaging of the a'c compressor clutch and also the idle rpm?

this is what i observed:
after running the engine for about 5 minutes the cooling fans turn on, then i'll look at the temp gauge and see that it is at minimum temp (barely touching the first white line)
i turn on the A'C switch and the clutch won't engage

then i turn it off, switch it to ON (engine not running) but the fans would still run and i am hearing a sound near the throttle body (i think it's he sound of the IACV moving)

when i'm on the road and this intermittent thing happens, the compressor would switch on and off, sometimes switching rapidly on and off, and my rpm would also fluctuate

do you think it is the coolant temp sensor that is causing these?

Hey daffod,

Someone will correct me if I am wrong.
But as far as i know ? On a lanos 1.6, you cant replace just the thermostat .
It is built into the thermostat housing. You have to buy it complete. Shouldn't cost much.
It's plastic. :)
From a dealer or you can get one from e-Bay. I don't know which Aveo thermostat/housing might fit.
Maybe someone does tho. ?
