Idle problem

Post by da_woo »

Hey Guys i have had this problem for about 1 month now and trying to eliminate the problems and wondering if any of you guys have had the same problem and know a soloution. Mainly when the car is cold (first start) the car has rapid loss of revs, causing a knocking sound when you try to accelerate and no power. My usuall fix is to highly rev the car and try maintain high revs for first few seconds and if still constant power loss re-start the car and have a 2nd attempt

It is a 98 Daewoo lanos 1.5 SOHC.It has 120G's on the clock. I have just done the timing belt, head gasket. In terms of finding a soloution i replaced the Coil/distributor pack, new leads, new plugs.A full oil service, re-installed my original air intake system including resonator. The problem seemed to be getting better but now it is back to "shit" again. The car seems to also be running rich as im only getting 400 - 450 km's to a full tank.

I thought it may be ECU related as from memory it started happening not long after i installed a tacho.

any help would be appreciated

I know

Its most likely your THC, its what broke on my car and sometimes it would rev up to 6000 rpms for no reason and sometimes it would rev so low my car would almost die. But im pretty sure this is what you need. It,s not that expensive, and I don't think its that hard to replace.

Oops sorry, I did mean the TPS, I don't know why i said that. Mine was only like $64, but it might even be cheaper because the guy ripped me off like 200 dolllars

it is highly unlikly that this is a TPS issue, bad TPS would make the car idle too high or make revs go back and forth between 1000 and 2000 RPMs or so.

Im haveing a ideling problem also with my Lanos. Both of my oxygen sensors are out. I am hoping
that will solve my problem.

When i lost my 2nd sensor my catalytic converter broke the welds around
the flange. My exhaust was just hanging and it was grinding on the secondary O2.

It did not idel high right after that so i dont know if that is why. Maybe 2 months after that it started
to idel at about 2100 RPM.

It doesnt always do it but when i does it is bad.
