History: When I bought my little 06 Aveo I did so with the thought that it would be awesome on gas, I think the most I ever got was 420kms on one tank(40L). I read on different forums that some people had great mileage 500-700km per tank. I drive 95% city.
I said well there has to be some kind of mod that can be done in order to increase mileage.
Checking here and around I saw that changing the sparkplugs, air filter and exhaust would all increase your mileage.
So, I went with NGK iridiums, K&N air filter and custom exhaust 2" from the flange back with 2 hi-flow flowmaster resonators and a magnaflow muffler with tip.
I've had the sparkplugs and air filter in for a couple months. The exhaust was done Oct 11, 2006.
Just before I got the exhaust done I was averaging 380-400kms per tank.
Since then I've gotten 265kms, 300kms, and 280kms per tank.
I found it kind of ironic that all of these things that I put into my car promised increases in gas mileage.
I have seen an increase in performance which I'm not comlaining about.
Can any of you give me any suggestions on what I can do in order to get my gas mileage back to par?
I figure that there must be some adjustment that has to be made to the car or some test that can be done in order to figure out where the problem is.
I just don't know where to start.
Also, I HAVE NOT reset the ECU after do each mod. Could this be it?
Thanks in advance.

the mods you have done will give you beter mileage OR better performance. if you drive easy (like a granny) you will see better mileage but not performace ,if you drive like a bad ass you will see a increase in performance but not in mileage. its all on how you dirve, if you need to conserve fuel drive easy

These little cars arn't your grandpa's ford. Theres little you can do to increse both efficiency and performance as they come tuned out about as best they can be. The idea is to maintain what you have. Keep the sensors up to thiere precribed readings, clean oil, filters, lube and tire pressure. be careful of mods as the computer control system may just try to reajust to conpensate for them and you have wasted your money. These can be hot little engines tho. If you must shut down the Hondas and Toyotas. put your mods on and take it to a good speed shop with the capability of reprograming the computer control system. ECU, ECM, PCM whatever have you for performance. Keep in mind if you want performance you will trade off efficiency and vice versa.
sems like you got a lead foot and city driving conditions owns you.
i got the same setuation with my 1.5 SOHC lanos and i don't complain 'cause thats normal... hard driving and fuel economy don't mix.
if you make mods and that increase performance then you drive hard and your mods does work... also remeber that city driving ruins fuel economy so it is normal to have low milage based on your current driving style and conditions.

Mileage on an Aveo with Mods
I don't think that my foot is that heavy. Before I got the exhaust I would put my foot to the floor and the engine would slowly propel the car forward, now I put my foot to the floor and I have some umph or reaction from the car. I love it.
I only think that I lost 80kms per tank in economy from the mods that I made. It seems like a lot.
A friend asked me about his economy I told him $30 CDN to fill it and I got 300kms. He said $10 bucks per 100kms.
MMamdouh, I used your 'how to' to reset my ECU today. I hadn't done it after I did the mods.

Holy crap that's bad mileage.... I get better than that with my 2.0L Optra5 and it's about 95% city driving.... oh and ya... I drive the living crap out of it.
As an example of my "harsh petal to the metal" driving I just had to change the factory tires (which are now bald) at 24,000km
I've upgraded the car with an intake, 2.5" Mandrel bent stainless exhaust, underdrive pully and I'm now running about 150hp at the crank.
Where do you live??? I'm assuming Canada due to the whole km thing.... what are you paying for gas?? $0.85 per liter??
Your tank is about 45L right?? so I'd guess that your actually more like $38 for a complete fill at $0.85 per liter
You should be getting around 25MPG (US) around the city which is about 9.4L /100km
So at 280km your using about 16L/100km....... nearly half the mileage you should be getting.
Even if your only putting in $30 at a time for that amount of kilometer that still means your getting something like 13L /100km
I would say that you should disconnect your battery for a few hours and let the ECU reset.... because something is definitly wrong.

I'm in Calgary, AB.
Is there any other way to check if something's wrong? I was thinking that maybe my air/fuel mixture was off.
I'm not sure if putting a cone filter would also help.

Perhaps you should visit the dealer and ask them to see if they can find a problem..... at idle and full throttle it should fuel your car based upon a set of fuel maps.... but partial throttle uses feedback from the O2 sensor to calculate injector pulse width.
I would imagine most of your time is with partial throttle..... so perhaps your O2 sensor is damaged or malfunctioning.
Other sensors will also throw things off if they are giving the wrong sensor voltage due to damage or problems.
The dealer can hook up a reader, drive around and then log data for analysis.... this is the best way to figure out if there is a problem.
You should take detailed fuel economy readings.... fill it up to maximum.... record the odometer.... when you get to 1/2 tank fill up again and record odometer.
As well if you go on the highway for a trip.... fill up before and after recording mileage.
This way you have some real L/100km data to give to the dealership.
