JohnnyC's Woo stalled out and won't start - FIXED!!!

Post by JohnnyC »

The family and I were out running a couple of errands tonight, I was waiting for a left turn arrow. The light turned green and I made the turn. As I was shifting into second gear, suddenly the engine shut off (electronics were still working just fine. I let it coast into the parking lot I was heading for and stopped the car. When I tried to turn it over, it shuddered very badly while the engine tried to run. When I tried again, I got nothing but the starter turning over but no firing of the cylinders.

The car is currently sitting in the parking lot. I'm going to tow it home here in a little while. The spark plugs are very new... the spark plug wires had been fine so far... Nothing was obviously unplugged or detatched or broken.

I bought myself a new fuel filter on the way back home to try and replace the fuel filter later (my first suspect is that the fuel filter is clogged and I'm not getting any fuel through to the engine. The thing that troubles me about that idea is that it was driving JUST FINE right before it stalled out on me.

When I turn the key on, I can hear the fuel pump priming up, so I don't think that's it... of course I'm not sure.

I really need to try and get my woo up and running again ASAP... Any suggestions or ideas as to what has happened, please let me know. I am happy to answer any questions you might have.

For those that don't know... 2000 Lanos 1.6L Manual Transmission...

HELP! :(

I'm planning on trying to change the fuel filter when I get it towed home later tonight. I know there is the trick of stalling it out on purpose to get the fuel pressure down... is there another method I could use to eliminate the fuel pressure so I don't spray gas all over everything? (I'll be reading up on it again in a sec)... again... please help if you know what I should be checking.

I REALLY Hope it wasn't the timing belt... I just changed it less than a couple thousand miles ago.

Out of curiosity... what would the woo do if it was the timing belt? Would it attempt to turn over but fail? Would it just spin the crank and not make any other noises? Man I really hope it isn't that.

it would sound like you have a SUPER STARTER IN IT... turning it over faster then ever because there is no compression

i think it is the pully on the bottom on the camshaft.. the one you had truble getting off.. powers the PS, ALT, and AC.. i had this happen to me but i wasnt driving when it happened. the bolt came loose and the pully slipped its notch and the car wouldnt start or run

It does not sound like I have a super starter... it sounds like the starter is trying to get the engine to start... but the engine doesn't sound like it's firing off.

I have heard an occasional tinny clank every now and then when I hit a bump... but I thought it was just the manifold cover or something rattling a little from a bump.

that sound is most likely your calipers.. daewoo calipers are noisy. i dont think that its the timing belt but the timing its self.. either a sensor went out or the cam pulley isnt spinning

if the belt slipped it will either be SUPER STARTER or it will barley spin the engine caust the valves arent opening

FIXED! Drove it home from Long John Silvers... :D YAY!!!

Daewoomofo was the big winner on this (besides me of course)... The coil pack fried itself out... I dropped my old working one back in (my spare) and it fired right up. Everything is cool again in the land of JohnnyC. :D

firstly congrats on fixing this issue.

how can you fry a brand new coil? was it defective or do you have an electrical issue causing this to happen? i am just concerned that this might reoccure once again.

Don't know how it went bad, only that it did. Bought it off ebay for about half the price of a regular priced coil pack. I suspect it all comes down to me getting what I paid for concerning that at least.

me too... I also would have been pretty upset at a belt that lasted less than 5k miles if it did snap.
