WHY TWO EXHAUSTS?

2001 LANOS HB-S 1.6 DOHC
I was looking down my exhaust and i seem to be seeing things.. right after the catatlic conv. thereis a little muffler i presume and then another one at the end of my lanos.. is this normal if it is not an exhaust, then what is it.

it is normal to have a resonator as well as a rear muffler. It makes things quieteras well as removes high pitch frequencys from your exhaust note. I kept a resonator when i got my sports exhaust so that o got a deep exhaust note. You can tell when a 4 cylinder has no resonator because the exhaust note is usually high pitched and raspy

I think that would be your exhaust resonator... could be wrong, but I think that's what you're talking about there.

ok because i was freaking out. I thought that if there was two exhausts, that was stupid and that just makes my car even heavier. I was just concerned that maybe it was suffocating my potential horsepower. but since it is that, i am ok with it, thanks you guys. oh and by the way with exhausts, the bracket off the exhaust header, that bolts into the bottom half of the engine, the bolts are missing, do anyone knows what size and thread diameter are the bolts.
