Finally got the ECU scanned...

Post by Mark K »

I just got a call from Ultratune and they said that the diagnosis was an electrical problem.
I think he said low voltage or something about earthing...

Is that a bad thing? I.E. expensive? re-occuring? just generally bad and crappy?

I gave him the go ahead to get an auto electrician to check it out, ill keep the board up to date with the happenings throughout the day.

Very thankful for all the advice i have been given here.
Cheers guys,

Mark

If its low voltage - will that be an alternator on the way out maybe?

New alternator would be probably be a few hundred i guess?

OK so i got my car back from ultra tune and heres the latest.

The car is running sooo much smoother for one thing, not 100% on exactly what they did under there, but they scanned the computer and it showed that i have a faulty speed sensor..

Whats a speed sensor? I ask coz im yet to see "speed sensor" anywhere here...
Im probly going to ask ultratune for the codes that they found and double check them here.

Also, the reason the dash lights werent working was coz something was unplugged or messed with when my mate reset the ECU... I was pretty naieve at the time, i probly shouldve thought something was up when he said.."yea the dash lights dont work straight away, rev the engine and that put the computer into 'learning mode' "
So they fixed that aup and now when i start the car EVERYTHING starts.
Huge f****n relief now that i know the computer actually works properly.

The car still has the studdering problem, coz i havent fixed the "speed sensor" yet, but when it starts doing it, its no where NEAR as bad as before, and now i atleast know what the problem is :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Oh, and i still need to get my clutch checked... but thats another thread...

Once again, thankyou all soooo much for your help and putting up with all of my questions.
Id be a friggin lost case without it all...
Cheers, happy st patricks day

Very relieved to hear that everything is running better and it is only a fault sensor left to fix now - that's alot easier/cheaper to fix than it might have been...

Are you going to get the sensor replaced? :smt080

Is your speedometer not working at all? Do you have an automatic or manual tranny?

If it's a manual... check this thread... I talked a bit about my "distance sensor/speed sensor"... I fixed mine and now that is all good. Although, if you have an automatic, I haven't the foggiest what you would need to do.

Yeah the speedometer is working... Unless its giving me a fasle speed reading that is

I get the feeling that if i were to get it replace, it'd cost a bit... and ive spent too much money on this thing lately (including getting it towed from warrawong to west wollongong... twice)

After seeing the link JohnnyC posted (thanks for that) seems all i would need to do is clean it?
Right?

I dont have a service manual for the car so im not sure where it would be either...

Its a 97 cielo, 1.5l sohc, manual transmission.
