Help!! Leaking Leganza

Post by TheGreatAndPowerfulOz »

My '01 Leganza has suddenly started dumping it's coolant at the rate of appx. 1 liter per 15 mins.
The guy at the garage who has my car for body & paint work after my car was hit says the leak is coming from the area of the water pump. It only leaks when the car is running and not while the car is off, so he says he is pretty sure it is the water pump and reccomends that I take the car to the dealer for service as he is not set up for that kind of work in his garage.

Where can I get a water pump and how much will it cost?
While I am getting the water pump replaced, I will go ahead and get the timing belt and tensioner replaced since the car has almost 50,000 miles on it.

It looke like I am going to have to wait for my income tax return to get this work done as I just don't have the money for that work right now.

Will the Isuzu 2.2L water pump fit?
On this page I found http://www.cheap-auto-parts.com/foreign/Daewoo.html when you click Leganza water pump, it takes you to the Isuzu Rodeo Sport 2.2L part page.

If the Rodeo pump fits, I am sure I can get that for less money & more easily than trying to track down a Leganza pump.

Any thoughts?

Ok, I ordered the parts from www.gm-car-parts.com
$391 including shipping for a new water pump, water pump gasket, timing belt, serpentine belt, pulley tensioner and fuel filter.

My local Daewoo dealer's parts department wanted $467.82 for all those parts, and they did not have any of them in stock. The guy working there wrote down that web site so they could get parts there, too. :D

I think that all I need to do next is change the automatic transmission fluid and transmission filter, get new spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, cabin air filter and .

I was looking at all the parts I ordered. The timing belt is in a plastic bag. On the bag is a sticker that says "Made in Australia". The belt has "Made in Germany" printed on it.

So, if the belt was made in Germany, was it the sticker or the plastic bag that was made in Australia?? :P

well they produced the belts in Germany, shipped them to Aussie to package them in the plastic bags, then ship them to the US to sell. No wonder Daewoo went bankrupt ;)

Did you read the whole thread? I allready said I ordered and received all the necessary parts: water pump, water pump seal, timing belt, serpentine belt and pulley tensioner.
I was merely posting something I thought funny about the parts being labeled inconsistantly.

omg (sarcasm) you also did not consider the posiblilty of a freeze plug leaking. That would not be easily fixed by radiator sealant.

What precisely is "cooling" and how does one go about fixing it? LOL
I would not need radiator sealent because the leak is not coming from the radiator, as I explained the leak is coming from around the water pump area.

I think the Rodeo 2.2L is the same as the Leganza but I wouldn't be surprised if you could use the 2.0L Pontiac sunbird/lemans water pump.

I should compare them for future reference........

Since I have the Leganza parts in a box in my Lanos, I am going to take them to the Isuzu dealer for comparison.

I have my Sunbird manual right next to me and I just examined the picture of the Leganza water pump in my schematics and they look very similar.

I don't think they are exactly the same but it's possible..... It's hard to tell from these diagrams since they are not very good for detail.

The only reason I would guess they are different is due to the timing belt setup on the Leganza vs Sunbird. ( 16V vs 8V )

It is finally fixed!

I paid $197 today to have all the parts replaced and the car is driving like new again!

No more water running out onto the ground.

The water pump was leaking, but I think it may have just been the seal. No point in risking using a potentially bad water pump again and only replacing the seal when the new pump was allready on hand.

:)
