Switch to 5W20 Oil

Post by BosnianLanos »

I recently blew a valve cover gasket and had some oil leak out. I fixed the issue and topped off (very little) with some 5W20 oil from my Civic just until I can go pick up some new oil tomorrow. Is there any way that the new weight of oil would damage my engine?

Thanks men!

I DON'T THINK THIS WILL CAUSE A PROBLEM AT ALL... I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION CONCERNING A SIMILAR ISSUE: I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CAM COVER GASKET BUT I DIDN'T REPLACE IT IMMEDIATLY.

after long time after the replacment i checked my oil level and found out that i lost 1/2 liter of oil... can a busted cam cover gasket that was neglected for some 3000 kms cause such oil loss?

sorry for the caps... again i didn't realize it was on till i wrote all that.

it may not have just gushed out... but as dry as your conditions are i'm sure the sand/dust would draw the oil out over a short amount of time.

Yeah, over 3000 km, .5 liter could have easily leaked out. I drove for less than an hour and had quite a bit of oil on the engine bay.
