timing gears

is it ok to leave the timing gears exposed? i know you see that on a lot of high horsepower cars, but is it safe to do?

As long nothing gets inside there is no problem but it is a danger you have to live with everyday

Just watch your fingers,hair, shirt, rags and anything else that could get caught in the gears.... what ever goes in will not come out pretty.

sure it's dangerous.... it's just like a cooling fan.... if you get your hand in there its going to do some damage to your hand and the engine.

Lots of guys have open cam gears but mostly it's so that they can adjust their aftermarket "adjustable cam gears"

it is not dangerous unless the object that got shoved into the gears did mess the timing or actually break the belt... you all know what will happen then.
