ok... is the 2.2L ecotec in the cavy and cobalt the same as the lemans and woo?
the reason i ask is that the cavy/cobalt engines are a dime a dozen... and turbo kits are cheap for them. also... the supercharger from the cobalt would be nifty.
i found a website that has turbos for the pontiac, but it lists the engine as the same 2.2L ecotec... is it?

Our engines are the "IRON BLOCK ECOTEC" engines from Europe.
Even in Europe they are starting to convert the newer models over to the aluminum ECOTEC (which is different than the Cobalt aluminum ECOTEC)
Eventually the Iron block ECOTEC engines will no longer be used in production vehicles.... but I'd guess that's still a few years away.
Basicly you have to read the details of the engine specifications for the car to figure out which engine it has..... all the iron blocks are related to our vehicles..... all the aluminum blocks are either related to the engines found in the Saab or the aluminum blocks in the Cobalt.
I know it's confusing that they have three different engines with similar disoplacement with the ECOTEC name but all you have to do is look at the engine specifications to figure it out.

Indeed. Entirely different engines. A clear sign is that the intake valves are on the "front" of the engine on the US ECOTECs...so putting the intake manifold in front of the engine. Euro ECOTECs are based on the old Family IIs like that used by Daewoo. They have intake bits behind the engine. What's the advantage of this configuration you ask? U can drop the engine lower in the engine bay thus lower centre of gravity and then you can lower the bonnet lines. There is some argument that the intake manifold in front makes for cooler runners, but I disagree...the manifold is right against the radiator and gets baraged by hot air from it. But I digress...
Cogito ergo sum...
