bogging sound

bogging sound
as of late, my engine on my woo as been bogging down when i throw open the throttle. it actually, to be as detailed as possible, sounds like a toilet flushing... like the air going into the intake is being taken in gulps or being forced to do something it doesn't want to. it has dramatically destroyed my engine's ability to gain rev's quickly. i makes for launching hard... but after a certain rpm (who knows) everything pans out. could this be from my wierd pvc setup with my aftermarket filter? i bought my acura one like acingteam did and it's just not here yet. will this help?
put back your OEM intake to see if the problem still exists.

Okay then...Dig this. I am seeing two things out of place with this set-up and I am therefore certain that this is your problem area.
You have not made a place for your stock Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. Without this your ECU cannot calculate the density of the air coming in and thus it cannot calculate the volume it's inhaling. You need to put a small hole in the PVC pipe and refit the IAT sensor.
There also seems to be a hole in the black tubing. A hole that will be allowing unmetered air to enter the manifold. Granted, there is no IAT right now so all the air going into the manifold is unmetered. Plug that hole as well.
A bit of advice. Check that your CEL bulb isn't blown. Disconnecting the IAT sensor from the circuit is SURELY going to trigger that CEL. Seeing that you have not mentioned it being thrown then I assume the bulb may be blown. If the sensor is still plugged in but is dangling somewhere out of sight then a CEL wouldn't be thrown and the ECU is calculating the air based on a fixed temperature.
Anyway you cut it, you've got to get that IAT back in.

the hole in the pic is for the crank case breather hose... if you have the hose off all the time then it will let too much dirt into the engine.
i don't think it will mess the car's performance as the hole is located before the TB so the amount of air entering the engine is still controlled by the TB and IAC.
as for the IAT, i can see what looks like the wire for the sensor in the back of the rubber hose, i don't know if it is attached correctly or not so you have to check that yourself.
Tango: no need for an extra port for the IAT, the sensor is located on the rubber tube connecting the TB to the air box and with the current setup the OEM tube is still in place and i am sure the sensor is still their... it is only matter of checking its socket and also the CEL bulb as you suggested.
Audacityracing: the sound you mentioned could be from the shape of your PVC link, it seems so smaal in between the filter and the rubber tube.... that could cause sound issues and that's why i suggested that you put back your stock air box and test the car.
my car developed a huge noise when i removed my resonator and the Y shaped tube... the sound was much much lower when i put back the tube even though the resonator is not installed, all i am saying is some times tubing makes all the different sounds you hear from your intake.

His AIT is there. If you notice, he is still using the stock black rubber flex hose that attaches to the throttlebody.
That black flex hose is the part the AIT is installed into. That is the part I cut my AIT out of.
When I removed my resinator and stock air box, I noticed a LOT more noise from under the hood of my car. It makes a sucking sound and a deep, almost as you describe, bogging sound, but the engine is running very well, however it is louder than before.
From that photo, I do not see any problems with your installation.
Just be sure there are no air leaks around the joins in the intake sections.

i think you are a little mistaken. his car is map sensor based not maf sensor based. the map sensor notes the difference in pressure there for calculating its volume.tango wrote:Okay then...Dig this. the maf(mass air flow) meter does what its name implies. it calulates the flow of air in a specific volume with a vane,hot wire,etc. also, the temp sensor calculates the temp of the incoming air so the computer can calculate the density with the value of the map sensor (thats it). iat; it does not calculate volume by it self.

i know its a bit unrelated, but check your hoses, i had to change my oil breather pipe, and a few other ones, over time they have just fell to bits.
my car runs rather poor off pullaway too, once i put my standard airbox back on, and replace these damaged hoses, il report any change.

What's a bypass? Is that something that blocks the water from coming in or something?

it's an in-line valve that prevents your intake from being totally clogged by water (as if you went through a deep puddle). it halps if the filter gets wet to allow the difference in air flow
